They walk step for step down the hallway. It is a place she knows. It is a place she’s never been. The floor wobbles, chevron parquet makes her head spin. Arms wave, perfect counterpoints from opposite sides of the divide.
She looks across, feels the calm of rolling hills and a gentle breeze until she looks into his eyes. So dark the irises merge with the pupil. As always, but he had never looked so empty. Her own blue reflects even over the unfathomable distance.
Does he see her or only a mirror of himself? Is there a difference anymore?
Notes:
According to my questionable internet research, both of these names mean valley.
This prompt deserves a full length fic, but I didn't have it in me, especially not on the timeframe. Really hoping someone else fills this one too.
