Work Text:

They were extremely close to the border. They’d be getting on a plane the next day and making their way to Panama.

Lincoln and LJ were in the other room, snoring away. And in Michael’s arms was Fernando Sucre. His best friend in the world, sleeping with his head on Michael’s chest.

Neither of them had put up a fuss when they found out the motel only had one bed rooms. They had shared cramped spaces before, and this really didn’t feel much different. At least there was a door between them when one of them needed to use the bathroom. They hadn’t always had such a luxury.

Michael and Sucre had started out on opposite ends of the bed, only for Sucre to worm his way closer in his sleep. Michael didn’t mind. Sucre was the only person, besides his brother, who he trusted with his entirety. He had proven himself over and over to be the most loyal and amazing friend Michael had ever had, constantly putting his own well-being on the line for Michael and his goals.

Part of that loyalty had started with Sucre’s own goals. To get back with his girl. To start a family with her once he found out she was pregnant.

But Maricruz wasn’t willing to wait for him. And she wasn’t interested in starting a family with one of the most wanted fugitives in the United States. No matter how many times he begged and pleaded for her to change her mind, the fact remained, Fernando Sucre had lost the girl.

And so, he had agreed to follow Michael and Lincoln to Panama. To start over and have some semblance of a life with his best friend.

To say that Michael was ecstatic by this decision was an understatement. He remembered the way his heart had jumped into his throat and how tight his smile had been with Sucre agreed to some with. His face still ached a little from how long he had grinned, something that was not at all common for Michael.

Michael looked down at Sucre’s sleeping form, his eyes closed, long eyelashes slightly fanning across his cheeks. He had the most beautiful brown eyes, Michael thought, extremely dark and dreamy. His thick eyebrows were furrowed ever so slightly as he slept, a little fitful, as he groaned into Michael’s shirt.

Gently, trying not to wake him, Michael rubbed Sucre’s back, figuring he must be having a nightmare of some sort. He hoped that he wasn’t crossing any boundaries. It was Sucre that had moved into Michael’s arms, after all. But the thought that his best friend might be uncomfortable with him touching him still made Michael a little nervous. He had never cared much about rejection before. But he cared now.

After a couple of minutes, Sucre let out a contented sigh, snuggling closer. Michael felt his heart beat faster, as he held his best friend close.

As he held the man he was falling in love with close.

Michael let out a long breath, before nuzzling closer, getting comfortable, getting ready to try and get some sleep.

He wondered if Sucre would want to talk about it in the morning.
