Work Text:
“Hinata,”
The space in between them feels immeasurable. Kageyama can’t help but reach out.
“Hinata,” he breathes again.
Kageyama’s legs can’t move, won’t move.
The distance grows and grows.
The wheels on Hinata’s bike keep spinning, spinning, spinning.
Away, away, away.
“As long as I’m here, you’re invincible.”
A promise that isn’t a quite a promise. A phrase that felt like it meant forever.
Kageyama doesn’t feel so invincible now. Not without Hinata by his side.
Yet he must continue.
Kageyama has promised himself that.
Hinata has taught him that someone will be there. That the path forward doesn’t have to be so lonely and it’s because of Hinata that Kageyama has learned - has allowed himself to trust in others, in a team.
Kageyama has learned and allowed himself the grace of trusting himself, his judgement and his heart.
It will be okay.
Because the path ahead is never alone if you let others in.
And it will be difficult, so, so difficult without Hinata.
But it is possible.
So Kageyama will let the guilt, fear and sadness settle into the depth of his heart and begin again. Let his nails scrape the surface once more to break the light in.
It will be okay and it will be hard.
Kageyama will put the effort in to grow.
