Bad for Biz

Summary:

Nix needs help with a couple gigs taking V across Night City and the Badlands. But could there be more to his requests? Is V starting to feel things for this netrunner?

Notes:

Would've LOVED to spend time with my favorite Netrunner. Guess I'll have to settle for fic.

Chapter 1: The Spellbook

Chapter Text

The seller was too antsy, chain-smoking and staring around every couple of seconds. V made the necessary call, as soon as the bar was empty she brought an end to their life. Desperate people were seldom loyal, and she was sure she'd turn on her the moment pushed if it came to it. If the book was so important then they might come after them. As expected they did attack, V tackled them across the bar wrestling the gun from their hand. It wasn't soon after that she was leaving with the laptop, the spells and R3n0's body.

When she arrived back Nix seemed slightly alarmed. He was glad to have the shard that he paid for, but tilted his head from the side and stared at her over the rim of his glasses.

"Unsavory type got you?" He asked, raised his hand slowly and touched just under her chin experimentally and cupped her chin when she didn't flinch. He turned her head from side to side checking out any scrapes and bruises.

"You have no idea. Tried to shoot the place up." V said, "Takes more than that to get me."

"Glad to hear it." He said and moved his hand away slowly. The warmth is gone and she misses it, odd to miss anything in the hurricane that has become her life.  "Tossed in something extra for your pain and suffering."

"Its fine, I'm used to it." She said, he reached into the drawer with his free hand and pulled out a medikit. He made quick work of the cuts and scrapes, injecting her with nano medbytes that healed any deeper wounds. "Nurse Nix? Color me surprised."

"I don't like my mercs coming back bruised."

"Your mercs?" V questioned.

"We do good work together." He said.

"Gigs a gig, I suppose." V said and he turned to close the kit and place it back in his drawer. "Enjoy the spells."

"Sure will." He said, "You should go get some rest."

"We'll see, night is still young." V said and watched as he headed over to his chair and began to jack in. "Gonna sit a moment."

"Be my guest." He said and V sat down atop his desk, and lit a cigarette.

"Well be still my nonbeating heart." Johnny said and materialized near the sink.

"What?"

"Going all gooey for the first guy that offers you any help?" Johnny said and tsked.

"I'm not–"

"V remember this," Johnny said and lit his cigarette, "Crushes always hurt."

"Fuck off already." V said and hopped down and headed out the door. She can still feel the warmth where he'd touch her chin and where his knuckles had brushed against her cheekbones. She tried to push it to the back of her mind as she climbed the steps and got into her Quadra but Johnny's right. Something in her softened whether she wanted it to or not.
