Work Text:
Nobody said a word as he chanted the spell. Their stomachs are sick with dread as they watch the scene with bated breaths. Still now one calls him out and demands he stop. They know they have no choice but to do this. So they watch in silence as he performs the spell. Pouring potions and chanting spells as he wills his oldest friend back to life.
The moon shone down on them, making the grotesque scene of a decaying corpse with gutted animals, split blood, and moldy fruit look more angelic than it actually was. Maybe that helped keep the others quiet while he worked his magic. Forcing Izuku's body from its decaying state into a living state. No one would know if it worked until dawn. The ritual is not an easy thing to do. Requiring many different kinds of sacrifices, potions, and it had to be performed at a specific time for a very long time. Even then no one was sure if it would truly work until the very end.
Eight grueling hours of nonstop ritual working that he had to practice and memorize beforehand or else it would result in utter failure. He felt tears in the corner of his eyes as his feet ached as he moved to and fro, exhaustion filling him as dawn finally started to creep in. It was not done for another 30 to 45 minutes so he had to keep going.
Finding strength in the light he chanted louder, gesturing for Izuku's friends to join in. So they could combine their magic to add strength to the ritual, the only reason he let them watch him as he performed this forbidden act of life and death. They joined him shakily but did not stop until he did.
His chest panted as he fell to his knees watching Izuku’s prone body yearning to see any kind of life in his body. His body has returned to a more lifelike state but it is not a sign that the ritual has truly worked. It has not worked until Izuku takes his first breath returning to this world. It could take up to an hour. So all they can do is wait in silence to see if Izuku will start to breathe again.
Izuku laid there for a concerning long time. To the point that the tears in the corner of his eyes finally started to fall. Fearing that his hard work has not worked as much as had hoped it had. His shoulders shook as time neared the hour ending.
No, no it couldn’t have been for nothing! The things they had to do to even reach this point was absolutely ridiculous. Stealing his body from the enemies, hiding the death from their allies, gathering all of the ingredients to perform the ritual. He is not even counting the amount of prep time it took to make sure they would do everything right.
Please, please one more miracle, Izuku. Shock me into silence one more time. Please! I don’t know how to go on without you. He lowered his head exhaustion leaking into his movements as he could no longer hold his head up. His last sight as he passed out a blurry vision of a green haired man reaching out to him.
