Work Text:
Kirumi can't tell what's so special about that boy, and it deeply irritates her. He's the only person who has ever been able to shake her, to see past the polite, quiet demeanour she puts up. It is very reminiscent of her real personality, sure, but being the ultimate maid, she can't really be confrontational at all.
Rantaro didn't see her like that. He would talk to her, hang out with her. She possibly even considered him a friend. Kirumi would more often than find herself eating meals with him and chatting about anything that crossed their minds. So sure, they were friends, but why on earth does he cross her mind so often?
They'd only known each other a few weeks, but he felt so awfully familiar. When she said this to Rantaro, he proposed that maybe they had met in a past life. The thought brought a smile to Kirumi's face. Maybe they were good friends in every life. Yes, such a thought made her happy.
Alright, so they were very close. They were so close, in fact, that people had noticed. Kaede had asked her about it once. She had asked if they were good friends, if they'd possibly met before. Kirumi felt her face heating up, a foreign feeling to her. Kaede only giggles and left, leaving Kirumi with a lot more to think about than ever before.
It's strange that of all people, someone as laid back as Rantaro had made her all a flutter. If you'd asked her a month ago whether she'd find herself thinking of a boy, she'd have laughed to herself, finding the very prospect ridiculous. But now, he's all she can think about.
Rantaro is very special to her, she won't deny it. She even welcomes it. It may be confusing, but perhaps that's what love is. Love, so it must be Kirumi thinks to herself. Kirumi was so deep in thought she didn't notice the hot tears running down her face. How stupid of her....as much as she may have loved him there's no point crying. Rantaro would have took her hand and told her everything would be fine.
Rantaro isn't here anymore now, is he though? Kirumi walks to the dorms. Normally she'd retire to her own room here, but this time is different. She goes into his room, Rantaro's. It's just like all the other rooms, the exact same. Rantaro hadn't done any decorating at all, it seemed strangely befitting to him that he didn't decorate it, Kirumi didn't have an explanation for it. It's just...him. She sits on the bed, hardly able to believe that Rantaro will never return to this very room.
Kirumi was never emotional, but this feels different. She's sitting, sobbing onto Rantaro's pillow. How pathetic of her. He's not coming back, and for some inexplicable reason Kirumi feels it's her fault. There's no chance it could be her fault, but maybe if she had visited him that night he would never have gone to the library. Kaede would never have mistook him for the mastermind. Now two good people are gone.
Kirumi didn't blame Kaede, not even for a minute. She would've done the same had she been given the chance. That doesn't change the fact that Rantaro is dead. He's dead and he'll never hold her hand, never hug her, never fiddle with her hair like he would always do. And it's tearing Kirumi apart.
She'll never see him again, the worst part is she never expressed what he truly meant to her. He died thinking she saw him as nothing more than a close friend, and how wrong that was. She would give anything to hold him one last time. If anything happened she would go to Rantaro, but nothing this soul crushing had happened before, it devastated her. And of course Rantaro wasn't here with her.
She looks at the roof, now laying down on his bed. Everything happens for a reason, they'll meet again. After all, Rantaro said himself that they might have met before, just not in this life. Kirumi smiles through her tears, maybe Kirumi in another universe is living happily with Rantaro, no death, no killing game. Just...normality.
She took what little comfort it gave her and left Rantaro's room, they'll meet again. She's sure of it.
