Work Text:

Taehyung sat on the edge of his bed, staring blankly at the floor as the morning sunlight filtered through the curtains. The ache in his chest had grown unbearable, and his fever had blurred the edges of reality into a hazy, unending nightmare. He had tried everything—over-the-counter meds, cold compresses, and even pleading for help from his family. But all his efforts were met with apathy.

He winced as a sharp pain coursed through him. He clutched his side, curling forward. This wasn’t just a passing flu—his instincts screamed at him that something was wrong. Yet, when he mustered the courage to tell his parents again, they barely looked up from their phones.

“Tae, just take a nap,” his mother had said, her voice laced with annoyance. “You’re overthinking it.”

Overthinking. That’s what they always said. He had learned to stop fighting, to swallow the hurt and let the indifference wash over him. But now, it was too much to bear. Gathering what little strength he had left, he forced himself to get up. If they wouldn’t take him seriously, he would have to find help on his own.

By the time he arrived at the hospital, his legs were trembling, his shirt soaked in cold sweat. The sterile white walls and buzzing fluorescent lights offered little comfort, but at least he was in the right place. The staff quickly admitted him, running tests and hooking him up to an IV. It was the first time in days that someone had acknowledged his pain, and even though he felt miserable, there was a strange relief in knowing he wasn’t imagining things.

As the day wore on, Taehyung found himself alone in his hospital room, the rhythmic beeping of the monitor the only sound accompanying him. He closed his eyes, allowing exhaustion to pull him under, when a voice broke through the silence.

“You’re new, huh?”

Taehyung turned his head slightly, surprised to hear someone addressing him. The curtain separating the beds shifted as the person next to him peeked through. A boy, probably his age, with round eyes and a soft smile.

“I’m Jungkook,” the boy said, an infectious warmth in his voice. “You okay?”

Taehyung let out a breathy chuckle, though there was little humor in it. “If I was, I wouldn’t be here.”

Jungkook grinned, resting his head against his pillow. “Fair point. But, I meant—do you need anything? Water, maybe?”

Taehyung shook his head, though he appreciated the concern. “No, thanks. Just... trying to rest.”

Before Taehyung could say anything more, the door to their shared hospital room swung open. In walked warmth—literal warmth, in the form of a woman carrying a thermos. Behind her, a man followed, along with a teenage girl. They moved toward Jungkook’s bed with such familiarity, such affection, that it made Taehyung’s chest ache.

“Jungkookie, I brought your favorite soup,” the woman said, her voice filled with care as she placed the thermos on the bedside table. “Did you eat, sweetheart?”

Jungkook groaned. “Mom, I told you, the hospital food isn’t that bad—”

“Hush, you need something homemade,” she insisted, pouring the soup into a small bowl.

His sister plopped down into the chair beside his bed, arms crossed. “He’s been sulking all morning. Probably bored out of his mind.”

“Am not,” Jungkook muttered, but he was smiling.

His father chuckled, shaking his head. “If you weren’t sick, I’d say you’re just looking for attention.”

They were all gathered around Jungkook’s bed like a cozy little unit, fussing over him, making sure he ate properly, laughing and chatting as if the hospital was just another part of their daily routine.

Taehyung tried not to stare, but it was hard to look away. It had been so long since he had seen this kind of affection up close.

“Who’s your new friend, Jungkookie?” his mother asked, finally noticing Taehyung. She turned to him with a kind smile, her eyes filled with warmth.

“Oh, this is Taehyung,” Jungkook said, motioning toward him. “He’s my new roommate.”

Taehyung hesitated before giving a small nod. “Hi.”

Jungkook’s mother tilted her head, observing him for a moment. “Have you eaten?” she asked, concern lacing her tone.

Taehyung blinked, taken aback by the question. “Uh... not really.”

Without hesitation, she poured some of the warm soup into a bowl and handed it to him. “Eat up, dear. You’ll feel better.”

Taehyung stared at the cup in his hands, the warmth seeping into his fingers. He looked back up at her. She didn’t have to do this. She didn’t even know him. Yet, here she was, offering him something he had been starved for.

Care.

For the first time in days, the tight knot in his chest loosened. He took a sip, the warmth spreading through him like a quiet kind of love.

Jungkook’s family treated Taehyung as if he was one of their own. His sister would sit with him, chatting about school dramas and showing him pictures of her friends. His father gave him knowing smiles and gentle pats on the back, always making sure Taehyung was comfortable. And Jungkook’s mother? She always made sure he ate, always asked if he was okay, always looked at him like he mattered.

One afternoon, as Taehyung sat with Jungkook's family, Jungkook’s mother turned to him with a gentle smile. “Taehyung, how’s the soup today? I made sure to bring some extra for you.”

Taehyung nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. “It’s really good, thank you.”

She reached out, patting his hand. “You’re welcome, dear. We’re happy to have you with us.”

Taehyung had never known what it was like to be loved so effortlessly. He found himself looking forward to their visits, to the warmth and kindness they brought into the room. It was a stark contrast to the cold indifference he had known at home.

And Jungkook—Jungkook was always there, nudging him to eat, making him laugh, touching his forehead softly when he was too tired to sit up properly. It was all so easy with him.

Too easy.

Days passed, and Taehyung found himself growing attached to Jungkook and his family. Jungkook was mischievous, always finding ways to smuggle in snacks past the nurses, sneaking them into Taehyung’s hands with a cheeky wink. They talked late into the night, whispering about nothing and everything, their voices filling the empty spaces of the hospital room.

One evening, as they lay in their respective beds, Jungkook broke the comfortable silence. “You know, hospitals are supposed to be boring, but you make it a lot more fun.”

Taehyung chuckled softly. “Is that your way of saying you like my company?”

“Maybe,” Jungkook replied with a grin. “Besides, you’re the only one who appreciates my smuggling skills.”

They shared a laugh, the sound echoing softly in the room. Jungkook’s laughter was infectious, and for the first time in a long while, Taehyung felt a warmth that wasn’t from his fever.

One morning, Jungkook nudged Taehyung awake with a mischievous grin. “Hey, I managed to get my hands on some instant ramen. Wanna have a feast?”

Taehyung blinked groggily but couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face. “Is that even allowed?”

Jungkook shrugged. “Probably not, but since when do we follow the rules?”

They spent the morning eating ramen and chatting about their favorite shows, discovering a shared love for late-night anime marathons. The more they talked, the more Taehyung felt a connection forming—a bond that went beyond hospital walls.

One afternoon, Jungkook’s sister, Somi, sat beside Taehyung’s bed, showing him pictures of her latest art project. “What do you think?”

Taehyung smiled, admiring her work. “You’re really talented, Somi. Maybe you could teach me how to draw sometime.”

Somi beamed. “I’d love to! Jungkook is hopeless with art, but you seem like you’d be a quick learner.”

Jungkook rolled his eyes playfully. “Hey, I’m not that bad!”

Taehyung laughed, feeling a sense of belonging he hadn’t felt in a long time. Jungkook’s family treated him as if he was one of their own. His sister would sit with him, chatting about school dramas and showing him pictures of her friends. His father gave him knowing smiles and gentle pats on the back, always making sure Taehyung was comfortable. And Jungkook’s mother? One evening, as the sun set and the hospital room was bathed in a soft, golden light, Jungkook and Taehyung found themselves talking about their dreams and aspirations.

“I’ve always wanted to travel the world,” Jungkook confessed, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “Visit places like Paris, Tokyo, and New York. What about you?”

Taehyung hesitated for a moment before speaking. “I’ve always wanted to open a small café. Somewhere cozy, where people can come and feel at home.”

Jungkook smiled warmly. “That sounds amazing. I can totally see you running a café, making everyone feel welcome.”

Taehyung felt a warmth spreading through his chest. “Thanks. Maybe one day, we can visit each other’s dreams.”

And so, the bond between them grew stronger with each passing day. They became each other’s confidants, sharing secrets and dreams, and finding solace in each other’s presence.

When the day came for Taehyung to be discharged, he felt lighter. Healthier. But leaving the hospital also meant leaving this warmth behind. And he wasn’t sure he was ready for that.

“Hey,” Jungkook said as they stood outside the hospital doors, a hesitant smile playing on his lips. “Wanna get coffee sometime?”

Taehyung stared at him, surprised. “You mean, like, outside the hospital?”

Jungkook scratched his neck. “You know... since we’re both healthy now. We can, you know, meet outside of a depressing hospital setting.”

Taehyung let out a soft laugh. “Yeah,” he said, warmth blooming in his chest. “I’d like that.”

And so, it began.

What started as coffee turned into long walks, which turned into movie nights, which turned into a kind of love Taehyung had never known before.

Their first coffee outing was filled with laughter and shared stories. They discovered more about each other’s interests, from Jungkook’s love for photography to Taehyung’s passion for music. It was easy to talk to each other, the conversation flowing naturally.

One evening, after a particularly fun movie night at Jungkook’s place, they found themselves sitting on the couch, sharing a bowl of popcorn. Jungkook’s parents had already turned in for the night, leaving them in the cozy living room illuminated by the soft glow of the TV.

“You know,” Jungkook said, his voice soft, “I’m really glad we met.”

Taehyung smiled, his heart swelling with warmth. “Me too. You’ve made everything so much better.”

As the days turned into weeks, their bond grew even stronger. They spent late nights gaming together, often losing track of time as they laughed and competed. Taehyung loved the way Jungkook’s face lit up when he won, the way his eyes sparkled with excitement.

One night, after a particularly intense Overwatch session, Jungkook turned to Taehyung with a serious expression. “Hey, can I ask you something?”

Taehyung nodded. “Of course.”

Jungkook hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Do you ever feel like... like you don’t belong? Like you’re always searching for a place to call home?”

Taehyung’s heart ached at the question. “Yeah,” he admitted softly. “I’ve felt that way for a long time.”

Jungkook reached out, gently squeezing his hand. “Well, I just want you to know that with me, you’ll always have a place. You’ll always belong.”

Tears welled up in Taehyung’s eyes, and he squeezed Jungkook’s hand back. “Thank you,” he whispered. “You don’t know how much that means to me.”

And in that moment, Taehyung realized that he had found something truly special. A bond that went beyond friendship, a connection that felt like home.

As days turned into weeks, Taehyung and Jungkook's bond grew even stronger. They explored the city together, discovering hidden gems and sharing their favorite spots. Each outing brought them closer, their conversations flowing effortlessly.

One sunny afternoon, they found themselves at a quaint little café tucked away in a quiet alley. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the soft hum of indie music created a cozy atmosphere.

“This place is amazing,” Taehyung said, looking around in awe. “I can see why you love it here.”

Jungkook smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “I’m glad you like it. It’s one of my favorite spots to unwind.”

They spent hours at the café, talking about their dreams and aspirations, their fears and insecurities. With each word, they peeled back another layer, revealing more of themselves.

One evening, after a particularly intense gaming session, they decided to take a break and go for a walk. The city was bathed in the soft glow of streetlights, and the air was filled with the scent of blooming flowers.

“Hey, Tae,” Jungkook said, his voice soft. “Do you ever think about the future? About what comes next?”

Taehyung glanced at him, their shoulders brushing as they walked. “Yeah, I do. Sometimes it scares me, not knowing what lies ahead. But I think... as long as we have each other, we’ll be okay.”

Jungkook reached out, gently squeezing Taehyung’s hand. “I feel the same way. You’ve become such an important part of my life, Tae.”

Taehyung’s heart swelled with warmth. “You too, Jungkook. You’ve shown me what it means to be truly cared for.”

Their bond continued to deepen, each moment together strengthening the connection between them. They became inseparable, their hearts finding solace in each other’s presence.

One night, as they lay on the grass in a quiet park, staring up at the stars, Jungkook turned to Taehyung with a soft smile. “Do you ever wonder how we ended up here? Two strangers who became so much more.”

Taehyung nodded, his eyes reflecting the starlight. “I think it was fate. We were meant to find each other.”

Jungkook’s smile grew wider. “Yeah, I believe that too.”

As the stars shimmered above them, their hands found each other, fingers intertwining. It was in that moment that they both realized—they had found their home in each other.

As the weeks went by, Taehyung and Jungkook’s bond grew even stronger. They became inseparable, spending almost every day together. Their friendship had become the cornerstone of their lives, and yet, there was something unspoken lingering between them.

One evening, after an exhilarating game of Overwatch, they decided to take a break and go for a walk. The city was quiet, the streets illuminated by the soft glow of streetlights. As they strolled, their hands brushed occasionally, sending a spark through both of them.

“Hey, Tae,” Jungkook said, his voice soft. “Do you ever think about what life would be like if we hadn’t met in the hospital?”

Taehyung glanced at him, their shoulders brushing as they walked. “I try not to think about it. Meeting you changed everything for me.”

Jungkook smiled, his eyes reflecting the streetlights. “Same here. You’ve become such an important part of my life, Tae.”

Taehyung felt his heart swell with warmth. “You too, Jungkook. You’ve shown me what it means to be truly cared for.”

They continued walking in comfortable silence, each lost in their thoughts. It was in these quiet moments that they realized just how much they meant to each other.

One evening, they found themselves at Jungkook’s place, sprawled out on the living room floor, surrounded by snacks and game controllers. The room was filled with the sounds of their laughter and playful banter.

“You’re really bad at this game,” Jungkook teased, nudging Taehyung with his foot.

Taehyung chuckled, nudging him back. “I’m just letting you win.”

As the night went on, their playful banter gave way to more serious conversation. They talked about their dreams and fears, their hopes for the future.

“Do you ever feel like... like you’re searching for something?” Taehyung asked softly.

Jungkook nodded, his expression thoughtful. “Yeah, sometimes. But I think... I’ve found what I was looking for.”

Taehyung’s heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean?”

Jungkook turned to him, their eyes meeting. “I’ve found you, Tae. And that’s all I need.”

In that moment, Taehyung realized that his feelings for Jungkook went beyond friendship. He had found someone who cared for him, who made him feel valued and loved. And he couldn’t imagine his life without him.

As the days turned into weeks, Taehyung and Jungkook’s bond grew deeper, stronger. They became each other’s confidants, finding solace in one another. Their hearts were entwined, and it was only a matter of time before they both realized that what they had was something truly special.

One evening, after a day of laughter and shared moments, they found themselves on the rooftop of Jungkook’s apartment building, gazing at the city lights below. The cool breeze played with their hair, and the world seemed to fall away, leaving just the two of them.

“Jungkook,” Taehyung began, his voice trembling slightly. “There’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you.”

Jungkook turned to him, his eyes filled with a mix of curiosity and anticipation. “What is it, Tae?”

Taehyung took a deep breath, summoning all his courage. “You’ve become my home. You’ve shown me what it means to be loved, to be cared for. And... I think I’ve fallen in love with you.”

For a moment, there was silence. Then, a slow, radiant smile spread across Jungkook’s face. “Tae, I feel the same way. I’ve been waiting for the right moment to tell you, but I guess you beat me to it.”

Relief washed over Taehyung, and he let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. “Really?”

Jungkook nodded, stepping closer and taking Taehyung’s hands in his. “Really. You’ve brought so much light into my life, and I can’t imagine my world without you.”

At that moment, with the city lights twinkling below and the stars shimmering above, they knew they had found something rare and beautiful. Their hearts were no longer searching; they had found their home in each other.

Jungkook squeezed his hand, his eyes shining with love and excitement. “Yes, it is. And I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.”

Together, they walked forward, their hearts filled with hope and love, knowing that whatever came their way, they would face it together. Because they had found their home in each other, and that was all they needed.
