With one hand dragging a suitcase, and with the other holding the hand of his daughter, who also held hers, Nunew led the way through the hallway of that apartment complex. The hallway was wide and their footsteps did not echo due to the carpet that covered it, it seemed to be a cozy place. And, the moment they reached a specific door, they stopped in front of it, observing it for a couple of seconds.
-So… what do you think? - Nunew turned to look at the little girl he was holding in his hand.
The little girl, with her hair tied back in a ponytail with a light blue bow and dressed in a dress of the same color and over it an adorable lilac sweater with a cute bunny print, turned to look at him with a big smile.
-I like it. -she replied effusively, but her smile soon faded. -But I'm going to miss my grandparents.
Nunew turned to her, taking her by the shoulders.
-Me too, my love, but we have to take advantage of this apartment that your great-grandfather left us to start our own life. -After finishing his prayer, he hugged the girl to his chest. -It's time to build our own home alone.
Nunew was an omega with a very peculiar story, and perhaps a little -very- sad. At the age of fifteen he had experienced the nightmare of any teenager, and also that of any father of teenagers: getting pregnant. This was the result of an encounter with his high school boyfriend, the result? An alpha boy who did not bear the responsibility for his actions, and an omega boy who had to face a society that looked at him as irresponsible, as if he had been the only one to blame for it. Fortunately, he had two understanding parents, who even with the pain in their soul due to the situation, never left him alone and took care of him and his baby, and he would thank them for that for life.
This is how Nunew embarked on the complicated path of a teenage pregnancy and then early motherhood. His baby came into this world as a very healthy omega girl, although premature due to the nature of his pregnancy.
Thanks to his family, Nunew was able to continue studying, choosing to study to become a teacher, and later managing to get small jobs that provided enough for him and his daughter, who at that time was already ten years old. That's right, Nunew was now a young omega mother of twenty-five years, to whom his grandfather had left him an apartment before he died so he could move in with his daughter.
And there they were, reflecting on the change that was coming upon them now in a new space alone. And it's not as if he was afraid of not having an alpha father at home, that didn't even cross his mind, because his concept of family was based on just him and his daughter, and before that his parents.
-Tomorrow we can go and see the school and enroll you before I go look for a new job. - He said to the little girl.
- Can I stay and tidy up the apartment afterwards?
-No Nana, I already told Aunt Pim that I'll drop you off with her while I'm on my way back. - Nunew replied , and the girl pouted. Nunew then squeezed her cheeks. -I'm so sorry my girl, I want to find a job that will allow me to return home with you soon.
Nana's expression changed to something of a melancholy. At home she had her grandparents who kept her company, and her neighbours her age with whom she went out to play. Now, the change meant a sadness in her chest.
-We'll get through this, okay ? - Nunew spoke again , wanting to express hope. She smiled, and Nunew sighed, turning back to his suitcase, but…
The door to the adjacent apartment swung open, allowing them to hear the sound of a baby crying and a man's fast-paced voice.
Nunew held her daughter by the shoulders, watching as a man emerged from there… It was an alpha, an alpha wearing only sweatpants , an open shirt, with one arm holding a crying baby, and with the other holding the phone he was talking on. The omega immediately covered his daughter's eyes.
-It's at 217, you have to come up, I just left so you can see me... No! You just passed by, it was a few floors below. -His phone conversation indicated that he was apparently waiting for someone.
The man noticed his new neighbors and with that he hung up the call. The omega's judging look at him, while covering the girl's eyes, made him realize that he was half naked...
- I-I'm sorry! - He cried in fear, and the baby let out a louder cry. - Shh , calm down Sunny . - He hugged the baby with both arms, rocking him in a futile attempt to calm him down, and went back into the apartment.
That had been very weird.
-He's very handsome. -the girl said, removing her father's hands from her face.
- Nana! - Nunew scolded her .
-Oh, I'm sure you think so too. - The little girl mocked.
-More respect, little girl. - Nunew pinched her daughter's cheek as a punishment.
…Though, deep down, he couldn’t deny what his daughter was saying. The man and his six-pack weren’t ugly at all. It made him feel ashamed that he was dressed only in a loose white shirt and jeans, comfortable enough to move around in with his daughter, but thinking that maybe he had gotten a little careless over the years.
He shook those thoughts away as he realized them. After his failed relationship he never even thought about having a partner again, much less bringing an alpha into the house with his daughter there. He had decided to dedicate himself solely to the girl and be a good father, besides the fact that getting involved with an alpha again would have made people talk about him again and he didn't want that.
-We better go in now. - He warned the girl, going ahead to open the door to what would be his new life.
-
