Work Text:
It had been River Song that had gifted them the vortex manipulator. Neither Jenny or Vastra were all that big on it, but they couldn't deny it's useful nature. Of course they kept it firmly away from Strax, that would be a disaster waiting to happen. No, instead they used it sparingly.
They used it on anniversaries. It was worthwhile, they thought, to go somewhere far off. Another planet in another time, where they could be themselves for one night. It was worth it, to just exist together in public on their anniversaries.
They used it on birthdays too. It was a cause for celebration after all, and wasn't it nice to celebrate somewhere they didn't have to hide? Somewhere they didn't have to act? Wasn't it nice to just exist with no fear of repercussions?
They used it on some holidays too. Namely Saint Valentine's day. And really, could you blame them? Didn't they deserve to be free on a day dedicated to love? Really it wasn't all that often they ventured off to the far off times and places the vortex manipulator offered them at the tips of their fingers.
They did have a favourite planet. It was almost Earth like, but much more dedicated to it's nature. An Earth the Vastra's people would be proud to inhabit if they could, if it were an Earth. The plant life was a part of the buildings, not overtaking the structures, but not dying to make way for progress.
The biggest difference Vastra had noticed between the planets, was the two suns. The twins suns, stunning in the sky, were a wondrous change from home. They did tend to stick to planets that weren't too unlike Earth, it saved them from significant shocks.
"Shall we, my dear?" Vastra asked, offering her arm to her wife. They were celebrating Valentines day, and in a few weeks they'd be back to celebrate their anniversary. Well one of them, anyway.
"I think we shall love," Jenny said, smiling up at her. What Vastra wouldn't give to have these moments at home, she did not know. They had so little time together, the human lifespan paled in comparison to the silurian one, but she wouldn't change their time for the world. She just wished they had more time to be free together, as they were, at home.
Maybe, Vastra thought, they could get more use out of their vortex manipulator. Once or twice a month, as well as their already scheduled trips. Perhaps it would do them good, being themselves more often. It would be worth it too, to see the wonder on Jenny's face. To walk down streets, hand in hand with no worry.
