Chapter Text
Virgil sat in the middle of his room, which had mannequins along one wall and bits of fabric strewn about the floor. Other than a bed tucked into the corner, which was also covered in fabric scraps, the room was bare. Virgil didn't mind, though. It was to keep him focused, just like Janus always said. Besides, it was difficult to furnish an entire attic.
Day in, day out, working on dresses. Virgil usually hand-sewed details, but he had to go downstairs to use the sewing machine so Janus could help him if the machine stopped working for whatever reason.
Virgil was currently working on another dress he'd thought up. It was made from a light blue fabric that had stars printed on it. The fabric would turn into a sundress, with a long pleated skirt. He would have to iron the pleats in, which meant he'd have to ask Janus for help twice. The end result would be a sundress with a skirt that fluffed up when you spun, which people loved. And hey, if no one wanted it, Virgil would just keep it for himself, just like he always did.
Virgil's eyebrows began to furrow as he pinned down the folds in the fabric, keeping them in place for when he ironed his final product. Once he was satisfied, he brought his fabric downstairs, smiling when he saw Janus in the kitchen.
"Hey Jan," he called out. "I'm ready to use the sewing machine. I'm also gonna need to use the iron when I'm done."
Janus looked up with a small smile. "Ah, I see you've done an intense project today, then?" Virgil nodded a bit. He was usually able to make two simple dresses a day, but his current idea was going to take all day. He'd likely be ironing for an hour after dinner, but that was fine. "That's alright. Sometimes you have complex ideas, I won't fault you for that. And I can't wait to see how this one turns out. Just let me finish chopping up these vegetables, ok?" Virgil nodded and simply stood there, knowing Janus wouldn't even let him plug in the sewing machine unsupervised. But that was fine.
Janus stepped away from the cutting board after a minute, walking over to Virgil and smiling. "Now, shall we get this dress put together?" Virgil nodded, giving a smile of his own as he walked to the sewing area.
