Work Text:
Jane walked into the coffee shop, at precisely 9:25, as always. Every morning she came into this shop at the same time, and ordered the same thing. She was a busy woman, after all, and didn’t have time to dilly dally with anything other than what was on schedule. But this morning, something was off. The usual tired looking barista was gone, replaced by a woman who seemed all too cheery to be working for minimum wage in the morning. Whatever, Jane didn’t have time to question who was working at some coffeeshop and why. She put in her order, got it only a little slower than usual, and left. Perfectly efficient and punctual, like all things should be.
The next day, things went the same. So did the rest of the week. And the next few. But after so long of her perfectly scheduled coffee break, a problem occurred.
“Excuse me Ma’am?” Jane called politely to the barista “There seems to be a mix up with my order.”
“Oh that?” The worker replied, waving her hand nonchalantly “You’ve been ordering the same exact frappe every day for weeks, figured you could use a bit of a change of pace. Hope you like it!” The woman ended her thoughts with a gleeful grin, as if she had just saved a puppy from a shelter.
Jane frowned deeply. This random woman messing with her perfect morning routine? For no reason other than because she thought it was boring? Incredibly rude.
“Don’t do that. I have a routine and I prefer to follow it.” She said with an annoyed huff.
“Would you like me to make you a new one?” The woman asked smugly, knowing that Jane always tried to leave at the same time, and would be able to wait for the coffee to be ready.
“Ugh. Not today, but don’t do this again.”
But the next day, there was another new drink. And the next. And the next. And every day Jane would do this same song and dance, getting upset at the same thing, but never bother to fix it. She even learned the girl over the counter's name. Roxy. At least she was a good conversation.
