Chapter Text
Tonight wasn't supposed to be like this. Part of her wishes she could let it go and carry on, but an even bigger part knows that's not possible..
Tonight was supposed to be Their last date night before getting married, everything had been so stressful from wedding planning and this was supposed to be their chance at a break.
She had put nice white dress on with floral detailing, styled her hair into a bun with a glittery clip and had even gotten mitsuhide and zen to agree to stay away.
But alas here kiki stood. At the meeting point nothing but dread and guilt running through her veins, her fists clenched tightly around three mutilated envelopes, each encrusted with a wax seal that encased small flowers.
She had stumbled upon them trying to find one of Hisames missing cuff links for him, she opened the draw to his desk and put they fell from their hiding spot underneath.
She planned on placing them back she really did but the unopened flowery wax seal of the second two caught her eye, Kiki couldn't recall Hisame ever using flowers in his seals before, or ever receiving them in return. She thought for a moment and in a lapse of manners, she slipped the first letter out of its already opened envelope and read it, she wasn't expecting much a contract maybe or wedding invites? but as she read the letter those were quickly disproven.
She read as the letter encased words like 'dearest' 'breath taking' and worse of all 'love' she was taken aback, she must be misunderstanding this wasn't anything to do with her Hisame, the same man who was supposed to marry her in a week, that same man who had smiled at her gently with kind eyes upon their first meeting.
Kiki didn't think as she ripped opened the second letter urgently reading as it detailed all the ways he loved another woman, her eyes, her long Auburn hair. Overcome with sadness and anger, she tried to figure out why? What was the point in this? All these months of pretending to love her for what reason??
She glared at the third letter. She could stop now, place them all back and pretend that all these months weren't for nothing. Pretend that she saw nothing. But a part of her told her to open it, the more she stared at the wax seal glistening in the candle light, felt the ink on the back that once inscribed the address of the rightful receiver seep into her palm, mixing with the sweat of anger the louder that part of her got.
She tore the letter open with urgency discarding the wax seal that taunted her in the first place. Unfolding the delicate paper inside and reading the words that filled the page she could feel herself get more and more upset. Then it was over.
She stood in shock, frozen just trying to process what she had just read. The letter had answered her question, but not in the way she wished.
In amongst nonsense words and ink smudges was a detailed description of why he was doing this, what all these months of fake yearning and empty promises was about.
money and power
kiki knew it was a possibility that the only reason someone would want her Is for the title and money she could offer in return but she had never EVER thought of Hisame as one of those men he was so... Kind to her so.... Real.....
And so here she was. Outside where they are supposed to meet in just 10 minutes. In 10 minutes that clock bell will toll and he will appear, everything seems so thought out now. Every date, the "spur of the moment" proposal and even the I love yous she had clung to so dearly.
And as if on cue, Kiki was pulled out of her thoughts by the sound of her own name being said in his voice.
"Kiki?" He questioned, "are you okay?"
All Kiki could muster was a blank stare. She knew that soon he wouldn't be so calm.
"You're not getting cold feet are you?" Hisame asked half teasing half genuine worry.
"No." She responded dimly.
And It was true, she wasn't getting cold feet she already had cold feet so to speak.
"What wrong?"
It was so strange to her? In that moment he seemed so sincere but she knew the truth. And It was too late to pretend she didn't, she wasn't sure how to begin. 'i went rifling through your private belongings' 'I just FOUND the most private letters you have by chance.'
Her grip loosened the letters, that alone was enough to draw his attention to them.
"What's that?" He asked pointing towards her hand.
She swallowed her guilt "I think you know.." she whispered her eyes displaying nothing but grief.
His face dropped.
"What?"
She showed all three envelopes clearly to him.
Immediately he recognised them. Those special wax seals he had made just for her, his eyes widened.
"How..?"he stuttered.
"I found them in your desk." She admitted.
"What were doing rifling through my things?" He said, anger welling up.
"I was looking for your cuff links for you." " Thought I'd save you the hassle"
"Kiki.." he breathed.
"I can explain...."
"Can you?" She asked.
"Can you really." "Because in my opinion there's no need to. I've already read what I need to know."
"Look I.."
He hesitated
"I know what it seems-"
"I don't care." She cut him off
He stared at her.
She felt so dumb, she had to hurry this up. She could feel the tears welling and she'd be dammed before she let him see her cry.
"I was going to end it before the wedding I SWEAR." he claimed
She shook her head.
"Why?" " Why then why not now?" She asked
"Because.." he scattered looking for an answer in his head.
"Because.. you weren't..." She answered for him.
Kiki looked at her fiancé with ever saddening eyes.
He tried to speak to no avail.
"You want her looks, her attitude her.. charm whilst also wanting my power and money." She said coldly.
"Kiki that's not true, and you know it.."
"How could you do this?"
"Kiki I-" he tried to answer.
Kiki turned away from him "the weddings off...go home." She said afraid that one more sentence will be the breaking point.
"Wha..?"
"Kiki there's only one week left till the wedding."
"You really want to do this now??"
He asked panicked.
No answer.
"Can't we work this out after?"
She whipped her head to face him.
"If you really wanted this marriage you wouldn't of done this." She said shaking the tightly held letters.
She could physically feel the anger rising in her.
"That was none of your business, you shouldn't of even opened them!" Hisame exclaimed.
Kiki stared at him, there was no way he was trying to blame her for this.
"Get out."
She stated blankly.
"Look kiki-" he tried to reason
"Get out."
"You know I care about you, it just... she means a lot to me." He told her.
Kiki could only wonder in return. Wonder how this was the same man who smiled at her kindly, who gushed over her at any time, who cupped her face gently as if it were water from the freshest spring, how he'd told her such comforting words when she was upset.
All while he cared more about another woman.
"get out." Kiki repeated to him harshly through gritted teeth
She couldn't help it anymore, her eyes began to gently spill over with sorrow.
hisame opened his mouth as if to say something, but he hesitated and stumbled on his own breath.
"out." Kiki said, simple but cold.
"Kiki.." he whispered her name
She glared at him, eyes full of anger but overflowing with sorrow simultaneously, as if she were a leaky faucet that had tried to be taped closed.
"Out"
He tried to reason with her
"get out"
"get out."
She demanded in return, her eyes truly betraying her with every tear drop that fell.
Hisame went quiet he looked at her, guilty and dumbfounded.
"I'm sorry.." he whispered.
Taking one last look at the sight before him, Kikis glaring eyes now red from tears, the three letters that he knew he should've disposed off still tightly clenched in her fist, he adhered to her demands and turned away to leave.
Leaving her stood in the dark... Alone... Again, with nothing but the loud bells of the clock tower chiming to fill her thoughts.
