Chapter Text
"You're human! You could never understand how I feel!!!"
"... Okay, then."
Kou felt a sudden calm sweep over his mind and body as he took a step closer to the ledge.
"Want me to die? Then I can be with you forever."
The expression on his face is resolute in this decision, and Kou knows without a doubt that he would go through with it, no matter how foolish it seems. For what else could he do?
Mitsuba's tears pause, just for a moment. That's all the answer Kou needs, and he takes one last look into the other boy's now puffy eyes before he smiles, and takes a final step backwards.
"Then, when we get back to the real world... we'll figure out how to become regular humans together. Okay, Mitsuba!!?"
The wind rushing around Kou's body snatches the words from his mouth as quick as he can speak them, leaving him unsure whether Mitsuba could even hear him. Just in case, Kou widens his grin for him, ignoring the wind drying out his mouth as he gives a short wave.
The look of pure shock on Mitsuba's flawless face is the last thing Kou sees before everything combusts into a harsh flare of pain, fading quickly to an all-consuming nothingness.
---
Emotionlessly, Kou observes what was left of his "body". An inconvenience for sure, but hopefully Shijima would do something to clean it up before any of his friends could come across it, being able to "see everything on her canvas" and all. Maybe she'd even replace him with a new Kou?
A single gut-wrenching sob from above his head made Kou snap his attention towards the hole in the building's wall, where he could see a small, pink figure jerkily back away before falling over with the harsh tinkle of shattered glass colliding with itself.
"Mitsuba!" He tries to shout. "What happened, are you okay?!"
Kou opens his mouth to call out again, then stops and frowns when he realises his voice was silent. He tries yelling for Mitsuba one more time, but to no avail.
Giving up, Kou slumps dejectedly against the wall near his body and closes his eyes tiredly. I guess this is my existence from now on... he thinks somewhat sourly.
It's okay... Maybe tomorrow Mitsuba will find me and help me get used to this, and then I can get right back to helping him with his wish! Yeah, that's a nice thought...
With one last thought of the pink-haired apparition in his head causing his frown to melt into a soft smile and his body to relax against the brick, Kou doesn't even notice as he starts fading away to pure nothingness, such is his peace.
