Chapter Text
Footsteps sounded against the crunchy leaves, Jet’s shoes sinking into the soft, spongy soil as he crept through the woods, under the cover of darkness. Shadows loomed and stretched across the ground. There was no moon out tonight, only pure darkness. He had to leave. He could not stay. It was unsafe to stay. Earlier that night he had written a note, and without a glance back on his house, he walked. Walked into the woods.
Now don’t get him wrong, Jet loved his family, however, the other local children would not stop tormenting Jet. They would mock him for being the newcomer, tease him about his twin’s death, and overall would not leave him alone. It didn’t really help that Jet could see the dead. Or that he spaced out often, making him an easy target. He struggled with his space outs.
The thirteen year old boy clambered over fallen logs and walked across stones to traverse small streams of murky water. The air was cool and thick, smelling of rain and damp floral and fauna. The cuffs of his jeans were covered in mud and his knees had grass stains on them. Jet knew his sister’s spirit was chattering on about something, but he wasn’t paying attention. Ghosts are annoying, he decides. Soon enough though, Jet’s sister catches his attention. She hands him a smooth, yellow rock. It looked slightly opaque. Jet touched it, and there beside him opened a soft yellow coloured portal, big enough for him to walk through.
