Pathological Diagnosis
Official inquiry into the death of [POSTAL DUDE], age 27, is performed at the Office of the Paradise Chief Medical Examiner. Percutaneous blood samples were taken from the left and right femoral artery, as the ulnar and radial arteries are non viable due to injury. Blood tests revealed the subject was sober at time of death. Arms did not indicate prior abuse of injectable stimulants, but it cannot be stated definitively due to the damage incurred from police bullets.
Summary of Circumstances Related to Death
Death reported October 23rd, 1997, approx 18:00. [POSTAL DUDE] was located by the Paradise Police Department after another wave of back up was sent to a distress call for a spree shooter. By the time the team arrived, multiple officers were discovered dead or in critical condition. [DUDE] had moved on from the area but was discovered to be dead at Paradise Elementary School not long after.. No civilians were killed and those injured were transported to hospital before the body was retrieved. Despite being a thursday, the school was empty by the time [DUDE] arrived, having been evacuated by police order when the attack began.
Cause of Death Shotgun wound to bottom of chin
Opinion [POSTAL DUDE], 27, died as a result of a shotgun wound, seemingly self inflicted.

SCENE NOTE
On October 23rd, 1997, a plea for backup was received. After an attempt to evict [POSTAL DUDE], the subject reacted poorly and shot the accompanying officer 3 times. Upon the shots fired report, a second wave of officers moved in to subdue the offender. The rampage continued through the town, with a specific intent on law enforcement and the few civilians who attempted to assist them. SWAT was deployed, but the subject’s artillery was underestimated. Upon locating [POSTAL DUDE] unresponsive, the subject was found to have various firearms, some illegally modified, in an army green backpack and in the subject’s trench coat. [DUDE] was found flat on the ground, hands still holding the shotgun believed to deliver the shotgun wound. The subject’s skull was severely fractured as a result of the close proximity shot. Within the subject’s coat was a leather bound notebook with hand written diary entries. Notebook is now in the custody of the Paradise Police Department, but copies of the pages are in the attached evidence folder. The writings imply a psychotic break, seemingly believing that the officers attacked were the aggressors. It is unclear what caused the subject to (supposedly) commit suicide, as none of the journal entries imply any kind of suicidal intent or ideation. It is possible that [DUDE] became aware the next target (Paradise Elementary) was empty and believed the attack was futile.
Off the record, I don’t believe that. I think this guy regained lucidity, even just for long enough to realise there was no infection. I think that was what caused this. I think a moment of clarity is all it took.
