staring at reed’s profile, v wonders, was this right? she recalls so mi’s (beautiful) sad, exhausted eyes, the way her hand brushed against hers, her flowery, sweet scent — her stomach dropping as her mind begins to race. was reed right? did they just have to…bring her home and everything would be sorted out? v would get cured, so mi would have reed to look after her…it couldn’t go wrong, could it?
“v? you in there?” solomon’s large, warm hand clasps her shoulder, bringing a comfort over her she can’t explain. his voice is low, concerned. “i need you to keep your head in the game. i know you’re worried about so mi, but we need to focus on the now to help her later,” he’s turned from the NUSA defence specialist that v hadn’t noticed was there until now, the early afternoon light filtering from the glass ceiling of the overpass. the worry on his full, taut lips echo in his eyes, crow’s feet creasing slightly. v takes a breath.
“yeah. yeah, i’m okay, i want the mines to go…” v loses herself in the planning of the rescue mission, trying to push down the feeling that she’s organizing an ambush instead. so mi would be safe with them, reed knows what to do. she tilts her head to the side, her heart clenching as she looks up at him, sunlight turning his (captivating) brown eyes into warm pools of unwavering resolution.
