Work Text:
The room was dark, the only light a faint glow from their own eyes and the sheen of sweat on their skin. The warmth between them was intoxicating—intimate, overwhelming, almost unreal.
Aether was on top, his golden hair cascading over Lyney as he moved, his hands resting firmly on Lyney’s waist, guiding their rhythm. Their bodies were pressed together, skin against skin, each movement slow yet electrifying. Lyney arched slightly beneath him, his breath coming in uneven pants, his flushed face turned to the side as if overwhelmed by sensation.
But then, Aether suddenly paused.
A frantic, rapid rhythm pounded against his chest—Lyney’s heartbeat. It was so fast, so loud, that Aether could hear it clearly over their own ragged breathing.
Concern flickered in his amber eyes. He shifted his weight onto his forearms, lowering himself so his body covered Lyney’s fully, his bare chest pressing against Lyney’s as he listened closely.
“Your heart…” Aether murmured, his voice laced with worry. His hand moved up to cradle Lyney’s cheek, tilting his face so their eyes met. “It’s beating so fast. Do you need a moment to breathe?” His touch was gentle, his body warm and grounding against Lyney’s.
Lyney let out a breathless laugh, his arm instinctively coming up to shield part of his face, but Aether could still see the flushed tips of his ears. “It’s normal,” Lyney admitted between pants, his lips curling into a small, exhausted smile. “I have tachycardia… It happens.”
Aether’s brows knitted together, his concern evident. He shifted slightly, adjusting his position before leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss to Lyney’s chest—right over his frantically beating heart. Then, slowly, he tilted his head, resting his ear against Lyney’s skin.
The rapid thudding vibrated against him, strong and alive, surrounding him in its warmth. It was as if Lyney’s heart was speaking to him, each beat carrying something unspoken, something intimate. Aether closed his eyes, exhaling softly, letting the sound wash over him.
He stayed like that for a moment, listening as Lyney’s heartbeat gradually began to slow, settling into a steadier rhythm. With each passing second, Aether felt his own tension ease, the warmth sinking deep into his chest. A quiet sense of relief filled him
Slowly, he took Lyney’s hand and guided it down to his own chest, pressing it flat against his skin. Lyney’s breath caught in surprise, his eyes widening.
“Aether…” Lyney blinked, shifting slightly beneath him. “I can barely hear anything—is your heart okay?” His fingers flexed lightly, as if trying to feel more.
Aether chuckled softly, golden lashes fluttering as he looked down at Lyney with a warm, lopsided smile. “It’s always been this way…”
Lyney hesitated, then instinctively pushed himself up just enough to embrace Aether fully, their limbs tangling as they rolled onto their sides. Lyney pressed his ear against Aether’s chest, listening closely—searching for that faint heartbeat. It was there, but it was barely a whisper compared to his own. Yet it was steady. Constant.
Aether hummed in contentment, his fingers tracing slow, lazy patterns along Lyney’s bare back. He whispered, “I guess your heart is beating for the both of us, Lyney…”
Lyney’s breath hitched, a deep blush blooming across his cheeks. He didn’t answer with words. Instead, he pressed a soft kiss to Aether’s chest, then lifted himself up just enough to find Aether’s lips. The kiss was slow, unhurried—filled with an emotion neither of them had to name.
Aether exhaled softly against Lyney’s lips, his arms wrapping around him again, pulling him close until their chests were flush together, their heartbeats barely distinguishable from one another. They stayed like that, tangled in warmth, skin to skin, the quiet rhythm of their hearts syncing as if they had always been meant to beat together.
No more words were needed.
As exhaustion settled over them, they remained wrapped in each other’s embrace, their breath slowing, their warmth lulling them into sleep—hearts entwined, steady and inseparable, as if they had always been meant to beat as one.
