Chapter Text
"Where is she?"
Esther Sinclair was waiting for Enid with her husband, Murray. Her brothers had already come and packed their things in the trunk of the van.
"She's probably saying goodbye to her friends." One of Enid's brothers said.
"Well, I hope she hurries it along so we can get going." Esther said. She was starting to run out of patience.
Meanwhile, Wednesday and Enid were walking out of the academy. Enid could see her family waiting for her at the parking lot.
"Well," Enid started, "I guess this is where we part. For now."
Wednesday nodded and said "It appears so."
"I'm crossing my claws that Mom will hopefully be a little nicer to me since I finally wolfed out. I can't wait to tell her about it." Enid said. Then she held out her arms and asked, "Do I get a hug before we go?"
Wednesday thought about it for a moment, then decided, "You get ten seconds."
Enid wasted no time and wrapped her arms around Wednesday, hugging her tightly. Noticing that Wednesday still had her arms at her sides, Enid sing-songed, "It don't count unless you hug back."
Wednesday sighed and wrapped her arms around Enid, hugging her back. Enid smiled, and then felt something in Wednesday's pocket.
"What's in your pocket?" Enid asked.
Wednesday pulled away from the hug, confused.
"Your pocket. You had something in your pocket." Enid clarified.
Wednesday knew she couldn't hide it forever, so she took her new cell phone out of her pocket and showed it to Enid, whose eyes went wide with surprise.
"O-M-G!" Enid cried out. "The Wednesday Addams has a cell phone?!"
"Xavier gave it to me before we left." Wednesday explained.
Enid giggled and said, "This is so exciting! Can I put my number in there? Pleeease?" while giving Wednesday puppy eyes.
Without saying anything, Wednesday gave Enid her phone, and Enid quickly put her number in it before handing it back to Wednesday, saying "There! All set!"
Suddenly, Esther called out, "ENID! STOP TALKING TO YOUR FRIEND AND GET OVER HERE!"
Enid's smile dimmed, as she said to Wednesday "I have to go." Enid turned and walked away, calling back, "Don't forget to call me! Or have Thing text me! Whichever comes first!"
Enid hurried over to where her parents and brothers were waiting for her.
"Sorry about that, I'm here!" Enid said once she reached her family.
Esther was about to comment on Enid being late, but then she noticed the scars on Enid's face and quickly got concerned.
"Oh my god, Enid, your face! What happened? Who did this to you?"
"It's a long story," Enid answered. "But I have good news! I finally wolfed out!"
Esther gasped, and said "Really?"
"Yes! I did!"
"Enid, that's wonderful! You'll have to tell us all about it in the van!"
Enid's brothers started cheering and congratulating her, and Murray smiled. But what surprised Enid the most was that her mother was smiling, too. Like, really smiling. Enid took it as a good sign. Everyone got into the van and Murray drove them away from Nevermore.
"So," Esther asked Enid, "How was your first time?"
"It was pretty intense." Enid answered. "I was running through the woods, and it was a blood moon..."
Everyone else gasped after hearing "blood moon". Esther said, "A blood moon? You wolfed out during a blood moon?"
"Yes I did." Enid said.
"There hasn't been a blood moon wolf in ages." Murray said.
"Well, anyways, I was looking for Wednesday because she had been captured." Enid said.
"Wednesday? You mean your roommate?" Esther asked.
"Yep." Enid continued, "Then, while I was running, I tripped and fell, and that's when it happened. I was wolfing out!"
"What happened next?" one of Enid's brothers asked.
"After that, I was able to find Wednesday, and she was about to be attacked by that monster, so I tackled him down and saved her!"
"Wait, you mean that monster that was in the woods? That one?" another one of Enid's brothers asked.
"Yeah, that one." Enid answered. "Wednesday said it's actually called a Hyde."
"A Hyde?" Murray asked nervously. "Like, Jekyll and Hyde??"
"More like Plants vs. Hydes. That thing looked like one of the zombies." Enid said.
Everyone laughed for a moment before Esther said, "There hasn't been a Hyde attack in nearly 40 years. You actually beat one?"
Enid nodded yes before continuing, "I shoved him into a tree, then I checked to see if Wednesday was okay, which she was, then the Hyde got up and I had to keep fighting him while Wednesday went back to the school."
"Wait a minute, she just left you there by yourself?!"
"She didn't have much choice, she had to save the school from Crackstone."
Esther started growling, "Addams..."
"Anyways," Enid continued, "I was fighting the Hyde, and I was actually doing pretty well until he had me pinned against a tree..."
"Oh god!" one of Enid's brothers said.
"But then the sheriff came and shot him, which distracted him for a moment so I could finish him off." Enid said. Her brothers and parents were relieved to hear that. "After that, it was over and I changed back." Enid finished.
"Well thank goodness that sheriff showed up when he did." Esther said. "I'm so proud of you, Enid! We all are!" Everyone else smiled and nodded in agreement. Then Esther said, "We just have to celebrate! When we get home, we're gonna throw a huge party for you, Enid!"
Enid smiled. A party sounded nice. Her mom would definitely invite the rest of the pack, but maybe she can convince her mom to let her invite some of her friends.
"Hold on, I wanna go back to what you said about the blood moon." one of Enid's brothers said.
"Is it bad?" Enid asked nervously.
"No, there's nothing wrong with that." Esther said. "We'll talk more about that when we get home."
"Okay." Enid said, and then the Sinclair Family talked about other things for the rest of the ride to the airport.
Esther didn't think much of it at first, but after they got back to their home in San Francisco, and she was laying in bed trying to sleep, she kept replaying Enid's story in her mind. How she finally wolfed out and defeated a Hyde by herself, during a blood moon, no less!
But then Esther started thinking about the what-if's. What if Enid didn't make it out of that battle? This was the same monster that put the poor Ottinger boy in a coma. He could've done the same to Enid, or worse...
What if the sheriff didn't appear and distract the Hyde? That monster had Enid pinned to a tree! He could've finished her off right then if it weren't for the sheriff's perfect timing!
What if Enid didn't wolf out? She was putting herself in danger to save her roommate, Wednesday, with or without her wolf. And that Addams just left Enid to fend for herself against the monster. Enid kept saying that Wednesday didn't have a choice, and needed to save Nevermore, but Esther still thinks she could've stayed for a moment to help Enid in some way.
Esther realized that Enid could've been seriously injured or killed in that battle. And she wouldn't have been there to say goodbye. The last conversation they would've had was at the end of Parent's Weekend.
"I just hope that one day, you'll finally be able to accept me for who I am."
Those would've been Enid's last words to Esther (She hadn't been able to call Enid since then), and it made Esther realize that she hasn't been a good parent to Enid. She was so focused on getting Enid to wolf out that she didn't treat Enid with the love she deserved.
"Well, no more of that." Esther thought. From now on, she would try to be a better parent to Enid, and do her best to treat Enid with the love and respect she deserved.
A proper celebration was in order for her daughter, and Esther wanted to make sure it was really special.
Notes:
There's a lot of fics out there that have Esther as a really bad parent, so I wrote one where she is a good parent to balance things out.

Chapter Text
The next day, preparations for Enid's party were well underway. Esther had already invited the rest of the family, but she was going to allow Enid to invite her friends as well.
"Are you sure?" Enid asked.
"Absolutely!" Esther said. "It's your party, you can invite whatever friends you want!"
"Alright!" Enid exclaimed as she took out her cell phone. "Let's see, there's Yoko, Divina, Ajax, Eugene, and... hmm..."
"What's wrong?"
"I'd invite Wednesday, but I don't know if she'll come." Enid explained. "She's not one for huge gatherings."
Esther's eye started twitching at the mention of Wednesday. She still held a grudge against Wednesday for not helping Enid during her battle with the Hyde. Esther was about to tell Enid to maybe skip Wednesday, but then one of Enid's brothers walked by, having heard the conversation.
"Well, if you don't ask her, she's definitely not gonna come." he said.
"Yeah, you're right." Enid said. "I'll throw it out there, see what she says."
Enid and her brother walked off, leaving Esther to grumble "Grrrr... Addams...."
It was a dreary cloudy day at the Addams Family Manor. Wednesday was working at her typewriter in her bedroom, when suddenly she heard tapping at the window. She looked over and saw Enid outside.
"Howdy, roomie!"
Wednesday blinked in surprise, and then Enid was gone. She walked over to the window and looked outside. There seemed to be no sign of Enid anywhere. A raven perched on a nearby tree branch, and then it suddenly turned into Enid and said, "Howdy, roomie!"
Wednesday's eyes widened in shock. She turned around and headed into the bathroom. But then she noticed something off about the mirror. When she looked at it, she didn't see her reflection, she saw Enid.
"Howdy, roomie!"
Wednesday turned around and looked out the bathroom window, and Enid was there as well.
"Howdy, roomie!"
Enid's voice repeated itself like a mantra. Wednesday ran out into the hallway and into Pugsley's room. Except Pugsley isn't in the room. It's Enid. And there's another Enid outside Pugsley's window!
"Howdy, roomie!"
Wednesday backed away slowly and headed back to her bedroom, but then she stopped upon entering it.
Enid was in there, sitting on her bed...
"Howdy, roomie!"
Wednesday turned around and saw Enid standing in the doorway...
"Howdy, roomie!"
Wednesday looked over at her mirror. Enid was there, too...
"Howdy, roomie!"
Enid's laughter echoed all around the room. Wednesday went back to her typewriter and saw that her story had been replaced with the words "HOWDY ROOMIE" a bunch of times.
"Howdy, roomie!"
It's all Wednesday can hear as she looks around. Enid is everywhere. On her bed, under her bed, at her door, out her window, in her mirror, and even in her closet.
"Howdy, roomie!"
It's too much for Wednesday to handle. She finally snaps, "The werewolf's right outside my window!"
Wednesday wakes up to the chime of her cell phone. She looks around and doesn't see Enid anywhere. It was all a dream. Curious to see who would be sending her a message first thing in the morning, she checks her cell phone. She almost drops it when she sees who sent this text...
Enid❤️
Morning, roomie!
Good morning, Enid.
I have some good news! Mom was rly proud of me 4
wolfing out and she's throwing me a party! 🥳
I was texting 2 see if u wanted to come
When is this party?
tomorrow
u don't have 2 come if u don't want to
Thing and I will be there tomorrow.
wait really?
Yes. I will see you then.
OMG YEEESSSS! 🤩
CANT WAIT!
Enid couldn't believe it. She had actually convinced Wednesday to come to her party. She squealed in delight and started laughing. If her tail was out, it would definitely be wagging really fast right now.
"Looks like she's coming, huh?" Enid's brother said as he walked into her room.
"Yes!" Enid showed her brother Wednesday's texts as proof she would be coming.
"I could tell because your tail was out. Might wanna be careful."
"Huh?" Enid looked behind her and saw that her wolf tail was out, wagging really fast and knocking some of her plushies over.
"Oh, I didn't even realize. I guess I just got really excited." Enid said.
"It's all good. Who else are you inviting?" her brother asked.
"Well I gotta text my other friends to see who else can come over."
"Alright, I'll leave you to it then. I gotta help Mom with the cake."
"Okay."
Enid continued texting her friends, inviting them to her party. Unfortunately, it seemed like Wednesday and Thing were the only ones coming. All of her other friends were busy with something. They still sent their well wishes, though.
The next day, everything was all set for Enid's party. All that was needed now were the guests. Slowly but surely, Enid's cousins, aunts and uncles started trickling in. Enid's grandparents also appeared.
"Aren't your friends coming, Enid?" Esther asked her daughter.
"A lot of them couldn't make it." Enid answered. "They still congratulated me, though."
Just then, there was a knock at the front door.
"I'll get it." Murray said as he went to see who it was. When he opened the door, Wednesday was there. "Oh, hello there."
"Hello. I was told there was a party happening today. Is Enid here?"
"Yes, just a moment." Murray turned around and called, "Hey, Enid! Your friend is here!"
Enid looked over from the other room and saw Wednesday was there. "Wednesday!" she exclaimed as she ran over, arms out wide. "You made it!" She stopped just before reaching Wednesday, looking at her with pleading eyes, wanting to make sure it was okay to hug her.
After a few seconds, Wednesday said, "It's okay, Enid."
"Yay!" and just like that, Enid wrapped Wednesday in a hug, giggling all the while. She was so excited she didn't notice that her wolf tail was out and wagging again, smacking Murray's legs.
Well, at least not until she noticed the rhythmic tapping sound coming from behind her, at which point she pulled away from the hug and turned around, saying, "Oh! Dad, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?"
Murray chuckled and said, "It's alright, kiddo. Why don't you head in?"
Enid nodded and led Wednesday into the house, saying, "C'mon, Wednesday! I'll show you around!" They went back to the dining room where Esther was setting the table for dinner.
"Mom, look! Wednesday came!" Enid called. Esther looked up and saw Wednesday. The Addams was in their house! Esther knew she couldn't get mad because she did allow Enid to invite whoever she wanted to the party. So she just smiled and said, "Hello, Wednesday. Glad you could make it."
"I was coerced by virtual puppy eyes." Wednesday replied, referring to Enid.
Esther chuckled and said, "She's quite persuasive, isn't she? Well, I hope you enjoy the party."
Wednesday nodded, and then Enid said, "Come on, let's go see what everyone else is doing!"
As Enid led Wednesday out of the dining room, Wednesday remarked, "She seems nice."
"Yeah, she's been much nicer to me lately." Enid replied.
"Don't you find it a little suspicious?"
"What do you mean?"
"That she's only started being nicer to you because you wolfed out."
"Hey, I'm not complaining. I'll take it! Good change of pace from what she was back at Parent's Weekend."
Wednesday hummed in acknowledgement, then the girls reached the living room, where Enid's brothers and cousins had the Nintendo Switch set up to play Mario Kart.
"There you are, Enid! We've been waiting for you!" said Enid's cousin Lucille.
"Hey, look, Addams is here!" one of Enid's brothers said.
"We were just about to do a team race in Mario Kart." another one of Enid's brothers said.
Enid looked at Wednesday with a mischievous grin. Wednesday knew she wouldn't be getting out of this, but she would go through it for Enid's sake.
Enid handed Wednesday a controller, saying, "Come on, Wednesday! You're on my team! We just need a team name..." Enid thought about it for a moment before she got an idea. "I got it! We'll be Team Wenclair!"
"Team Wenclair?" Wednesday repeated.
"Yeah. It's part of your name and part of my name put together." Enid explained.
"You do realize that's how shipping names are made in different fandoms?" Lucille asked with a smirk.
"What? We're just friends. I mean, what else was I supposed to go with? Eniday?"
"Well, it is your day."
"Yeah, but then you can't tell if Wednesday's part of it."
"The first one does sound more tolerable." Wednesday said.
"See? She approves! Team Wenclair it is!" Enid declared.
"Alright, then. Let's get started." Lucille said. Just then, Thing crawled out of Wednesday's backpack and onto her shoulder to watch the game.
One of Enid's brothers noticed and said, "What the heck is that thing?" alerting everyone to Thing's presence.
"Thing! You're here too!" Enid exclaimed while giving Thing a fist bump. "Everyone, this is Thing." Thing waved hello to everyone.
"Wait, he's alive?" Lucille asked.
"Where's the rest of him?" another one of Enid's brothers asked.
"It's one of the great Addams Family mysteries." Wednesday answered.
"...Yeah, that makes sense." Lucille said. "Back to the game."
Wednesday and Enid would be playing against Lucille and one of Enid's brothers on the other team. Since it was Wednesday's first time playing Mario Kart, they agreed to keep it at 150cc, since 200cc can get a little crazy with speed. After Enid taught Wednesday the controls, Wednesday ended up getting really good at the game very quickly. She ended up dominating the competition, and Team Wenclair ended up winning the game.
Esther watched everyone from the kitchen, where she was still getting dinner ready. She was happy to see that Enid was happy and having fun. After the kids were finished playing Mario Kart, Esther called everyone to dinner. Everyone was gathered around, excited to hear about Enid's first shift. Enid happily recounted her tale of how she battled a Hyde on her first transformation during a blood moon. Everyone was impressed that Enid was able to take down such a strong, murderous beast. After dinner was finished, Esther brought out the cake, which was a large rectangular cake with pink frosting. The cake had the words "Congratulations Enid" written in blue icing.
"Congratulations, Enid, on your first wolf out!" Esther said as she lit a candle. Enid blew out the candle and everyone cheered. Even Wednesday smiled for a brief moment before returning to her neutral expression. As Esther was eating her piece of the cake, she saw Enid happily chatting with Wednesday while eating her cake, and felt good. She may not have been fond of the Addams Family, but at least Wednesday was being a good friend to Enid. Esther was also happy to see Enid enjoying her party.
After that, the party was over, and everyone had to leave. Except for Wednesday and Thing, who opted to stay the night before leaving for New Jersey tomorrow. Enid was more than okay with that, and soon she was painting Thing's nails in her bedroom.
"Don't you want your nails done too, Wends?" Enid offered.
"No thanks." Wednesday said.
"Aw, come on! It'll be fun! I even have this black one!" Enid said, holding up a bottle of black nail polish. "Pleeease?"
She was giving Wednesday those puppy eyes again. Wednesday found it increasingly difficult to resist them. "Fine."
Enid's tail started wagging again as Wednesday walked over and sat down on Enid's bed. Her room was just as colorful as Wednesday expected it to be.
Just then, Esther walked into the room, saying "You girls okay in here?" before noticing Thing and freezing in place. "What is that??"
"That's Thing. He's part of Wednesday's family." Enid answered while Thing waved hello.
"Oh yeah, I remember you now." Esther said. "Your parents had him around Nevermore back when I was a student."
"Wow, really?" Enid asked.
"Yes." Wednesday answered. "Thing has been in our family for quite some time."
"Well anyways," Esther said, "I hope you enjoyed your party, Enid."
Enid smiled and said, "I did. Thank you."
Esther smiled and said, "I'm glad. Don't stay up too late now, I'm gonna head to bed."
"Okay, goodnight!"
"Goodnight, sweetie." Esther said as she walked out and closed the door. She was pleased to know that Enid enjoyed her party. This was a good first step towards being a better parent, and Esther hoped she could do more during Enid's break from classes to make their relationship better.

Chapter 3: A Full Moon and a Little Heart-to-Heart
Summary:
Enid is worried about the upcoming full moon, and Esther does her best to provide comfort.
Chapter Text
A few weeks had passed since Enid's party, and now the next full moon was approaching. Enid was sitting on her bed in her room, and she really hoped that she would wolf out again.
"Nervous?" a familiar voice said. Enid looked up and saw her mother entering her room.
"Yeah." Enid replied. She was very nervous, afraid of how this full moon would turn out. "What if it doesn't happen again?" she asked nervously.
"What do you mean?" Esther asked, confused.
"What if I don't wolf out again? What if it was just a one-time thing?"
"Don't say that, Enid. It will happen again."
"But what if it doesn't?" Tears welled up in Enid's eyes as she continued, "You'll go back to shunning me and kick me out of the pack and send me to those awful camps!"
"What?"
"Maybe Wednesday's right. You only started loving me because I wolfed out."
Esther felt her chest tighten at Enid's words. Enid was really worried that Esther would go right back to her old ways if she didn't wolf out again.
"I just hope that one day, you'll finally be able to accept me for who I am."
Enid's voice rang in her head again. Esther had to choose her next words carefully if she wanted to reassure her daughter.
"Enid," Esther started, "That's not the only reason I love you."
Enid looked up at her mother in confusion.
"I don't know what that Addams said to you," Esther continued. "but I love you because you're my sweet daughter."
"That's not what you said at Parent's Weekend." Enid pointed out.
"I know what I said. I know I haven't been the best parent to you. And then after that weekend, you never answered any of our calls, and after you told us how you fought that monster all by yourself, I just... I started to get really worried. I mean, you could've gotten seriously hurt."
"But I didn't. I beat him."
"I know." Esther said. Then after a moment, she said, "I'm sorry, Enid. I should've been a better mother. I just want you to know that, wolf or not, you're still my daughter, and I want to do better by you."
Enid smiled and said, "Thanks, Mom."
Enid and her mother shared a hug. Enid couldn't believe this was happening. Her own mother, after years of calling her a disappointment, actually apologized to her! Enid was so happy, she didn't realize her tail was out and wagging again.
...Not until they separated from the hug a moment later and Esther said, "Be careful with that tail, or you'll hit something."
Enid put on a mischievous grin and turned around to playfully smack Esther with her wagging tail.
"Gah! Enid!" Esther yelled before they both started laughing.
On the night of the full moon, Enid did wolf out again, making her mother, and the rest of her family proud. They all spent the night hunting together as a pack, and Enid was glad to finally be a part of it.
