Work Text:

“Hey, can you get that bowl down?”

Fishtank sighed obligingly and lifted Brick up so he could grab the large, metal pot on the countertop, before returning to trying to open the pasta box. Squinting, he shook it lightly.

“Which way does this even open from?” He tried to read the instructions on the box, but it was all blurry.

“Lemme see that” Brick piped up,  attempting to snatch the box out of Fishtank’s hands and failing miserably due to his size. Fishtank handed him the box and he read out the instructions.

“Boil in hot water for 8 minutes..Dude, I think you need glasses. These are the clearest instructions I;’ve read on a pasta box. ”

Fishtank rolled his eyes. “Whatever. Can you just open the box?”

Brick tore open the box of pasta, lowering his head to the opening of the box and taking a sniff.

Well, that was a boring smell. He huffed slightly to himself, reached in and grabbed a noddle, biting down on it.

Brick .” Fishtank snatched the box away from the other.

Brick stuck out his tongue.

“It’s not like it was any good .” He retorted, spitting out the remains in his hand, staring at them in disgust.

Fishtank rolled his eyes slightly, god, what an idiot.

Fishtank gaped at the slowly rotating mass of eyes, rings of them all turning around one central point.

And it had just emerged from their pasta pot.

“Brick, what was IN that pasta?!” Fishtank yelled in fear, backing away as he saw the weird entity slowly rise out of the pot, boiling water spilling over the sides.

Brick looked nonchalant. “I told you it was angel hair pasta”

“W- HUH?? This thing doesn’t EVEN HAVE HAIR!” Fishtank screamed as the creature slowly spun towards them.

Brick screamed, rushing to hide behind Fishtank. What the fuck was happening?

Fishtank took a small step back from the… whatever it was, taking Brick’s hand into his own, tugging him to his side in an almost protective manner.

“What the fuck!” Brick practically screeched “What the fuck! Fishtank, do something! Fishtankkk!”

“JUST- GO!!” Fishtank yelled urgently, grabbing Brick by the arm and running full speed out the kitchen, the biblically accurate angel not far behind.

“But what about the pasta?” Brick whined, not seeming to care at all about the angel.

“FORGET THE PASTA!” Fishtank shrieked, busting down the apartment door.

“That was our dinner!” Brick complained as Fishtank threw him into the elevator and smashed the down button.

“WE’LL GET CHINESE FOOD!” Fishtank mashed the close door button as the angel spun towards them ominously.
Brick violently hit the ‘emergency button’ over and over. And over.
“Brick!” Fishtank snapped “Stop pressing the goddamned button!”

Brick immediately stopped, watching the elevator door close just in time. That… was a relief.

“Top floor!” He yelled

“Top floor- Are you suicidal?” He snapped, turning to him, the worry in his eyes clear as day “We’re going down ! First Floor!” Fishtank hit the first floor button

The elevator made it’s usual noise of confirmation as the music started up

“Oh, I love this song!” Brick grinned, pulling himself up using one of the elevator bars “Lemme up!” He demanded

Fishtank raised an eyebrow, moving into a sitting position just as Brick decided it was a smart idea to hop onto his flat surfaced head and make himself comfortable there, humming rather loudly to himself.

The minute the elevator doors opened, Fishtank made a run for it.

Ding!

The door to the elevator opened, and Fishtank plopped Brick on to his head and started to run down the street. Brick immediately cozied up on Fishtank’s head, making it more manageable for Fishtank to get them away from whatever the hell that thing was.

The sound of distant shattering glass echoed, and Fishtank snapped around to see the angel gliding out of their apartment window, straight at them.

Brick let out another unholy screech as Fishtank moved to hold him in his arms

Why was this happening ?

Brick buried his face against the other like a baby, but, to be fair, he was kind of acting like one at the moment.

But, then again, there was a fucking creature runnning- gliding?- after them at the moment.

Fishtank bolted up to the bus stop, just in time, because the bus was just about to pass before it stopped just in time for them.

The door’s opened a bit too slow for his liking, but the minute he did, he got on, saying something about how ‘He’s a baby and babies ride free’ before speeding down the bus and sitting down on a random, crusty seat. Hopefully that thing wouldn’t get them while they were in here.

Fishtank was jumping at every sudden noise, keeping Brick close to him as the bus shook and jerked at every little bump in the road. He glanced around wildly, expecting to see the angel right on their heels.

Brick was fast asleep, cozied up in Fishtank’s arms, completely and blissfully unaware of the current situation. He was snoring softly, grunting occasionally when the bus hit a pothole.

When the bus driver announced that it was the end of the bus route, Fishtank rushed off onto the bus station and began to walk along the road, into the forest, placing Brick on to his head once more.

Fishtank moved his legs as quickly as they would go without waking up Brick. Yeah, this was in the middle of a terrible situation, but when brick was finally asleep, you had to take the chance.

Fishtank kept making his way through the forest. Have they ever been here before? He didn’t remember. But probably.

Brick let out a little mumble in his sleep, shifting a bit.

Fishtank smiled a bit. Even though this was still among the top ten most stressful and dangerous situations he’s ever been in, Brick being there kind of helped, as weird as it sounded. He hoped it was that way for the others too….

Scratched that, Brick would probably be dead on the spot if it wasn’t for him, so, he better be grateful that he was here with him, going through this.

Fishtank tensed, his footsteps speeding up as he heard the shifting of the tree branches behind him. He did not want to get caught.

Fishtank snapped around as he heard the tree branches rustle behind him. In a panic, he grabbed a stick and held it out, pointing it at the bush he heard the rustling coming from.

“W-Who’s there?!” He cried out, brandishing the stick “Show yourself!”

Out of the bush emerged the angel, gliding towards them. Fishtank backed away, shielding Brick with his body.

As the angel was only a few feet away from them, it suddenly stopped and just…stared at them.

Fishtank’s breaths were short and shallow as the angel vanished suddenly.

Fishtank released a breath he felt like he’d been holding in forever.

Then suddenly, the trees were all ablaze.

Brick’s eyes shot open with a sharp gasp, standing up on Fishtanks head

“Fishtank- can you- what- Fishtank!”

Fishtank took a step back as he felt the fire reach up towards him, falling backwards, his glass shattering upon the impact

Wait…

Fishtank sat up with a sharp gasp, his hands reaching up to touch his face, the loud beeping noises and spraying water coming from above barely registered as he called “Brick?” he called desperately, looking around

“Oh, hey! You’re awake!” Came Brick’s voice, who was atop the counter, beside a large flame and lugging the fireextinguisher towards it

Fishtank took a sharp breath- What the hell?-

“Brick- What are you doing! Why is- Oh my god!” he stood up shakily as quick as he could, grabbing Brick, ignoring the other’s protest as he ran out of the room and towards the elevator in what felt like the second time today

“Wait- The fire!” Brick, who was now practically drenched, looked up at him with desperate eyes “The pasta!”

“The pasta doesn’t matter!” He snapped, rather harshly as the elevator doors opened and he ran in, quickly pressing the button to the first floor.

Fishtank stared at the burning apartment, in shock from both the dream and from the current situation. Brick was unfazed.

“My bad” He said, chuckling and walking away “C’mon, let’s get some ice cream.”

Fishtank just stared at him in disbelief and followed him.
