BEIKAZU

. . .

“GIRL, TELL ME WHAT YOU’RE DOING ON THE OTHER SIDE…”

Wasn’t it for the finest wind tonight, would’ve the crew not come up for a nice breath of air. Beidou usually was one of the first people of the crew to test the winds, if they became too frigid, or too scorched. Usually, to the way of Fontaine, the winds were just right. And in Beidou’s opinion, that’s what really set Fontainian waters apart.

The crew decided to stay relatively quiet tonight, watching the constellations spell out the right way in the night sky. Admist the crowd, Kazuha found himself inching closer to speak to Beidou. His longtime feelings ought to be expressed for at least. A good conversation with Beidou could only do the least for his feelings.

Unknown of what to do at this point now that he was next to her, he just tried to focus on the stars above. Like everyone else. Everyone else didn’t feel like him when he was around Beidou, though.

“Kazuha,”

She started out of nowhere, her voice was soft, the opposite of her usual courageous and emphasized tone. Kazuha didn’t mind, he never did to be truthful.

“Hello there, Captain.”

He responded, slightly gazing up at her breathtaking face. The moonlight seemed to grace her features as a painter would to their paintings. But instead, it wasn’t a painting, Beidou was reality. A reality that Kazuha couldn’t believe existed. He’d wish that someday all the haikus and poems he made for her stay in her wake. Beidou’s subtle movement came from her arm, making Kazuha gaze away from her face.

“Alright guys, let’s get back to the quarters! Long day for Fontaine tomorrow,”

The crew gradually started their late night conversations, turning the deck to a fairly noisy place. The commotion died down when they stepped downstairs to their rooms. Kazuha remained on the deck, still idly standing next to Beidou.

“Ah, you’re still here.”

She said, chuckling slightly while turning to the railing, leaning on her elbows to watch the stars again. Kazuha soon followed suit, stopping beside her.

“Anegimi, I see you on a daily out here. If I may ask, why is that?”

Down to earth, Kazuha didn’t know quite well how to start a deep conversation, despite his good way of poetry. It was quite an embarrassing thing to admit, but it was true. Beidou sighed, pulling her hairpin out so her silky hair could drape in the way the wind flowed. She adjusted her gloves before speaking.

“I just like to y’know contemplate life out here…”

She whispered weakly. Acting as if she got lost in the beauty of the sky. Kazuha indeed would agree with her, but an underlying tone in her voice disagreed.

He turned his gaze to her once again, concern lacing his expression.

“You can open up to me, Beidou. There is no worry on this fine night that anyone will laugh at you.”

Kazuha began, hoping that that was the correct thing to say. Beidou clicked her tongue, avoiding eye contact with Kazuha and her dusted pink cheeks. She began to move her mouth a little, her words came out quietly and faintly one by one.

“It’s gonna sound stupid, but—“

Hesitating, Beidou shook her head, taking her arms off of the railing as she walked to the very front of the ship. Kazuha was quite baffled, but he was quick on his feet to trail her path.

Once Kazuha stood beside her again, it was a clear indication that he wouldn’t leave until she told him. Beidou smiled daintily, looking down at her feet then at the sky.

“You really are persistent aren’t you, Kazuha.”

She said, the pink dust still tinted her cheeks. Kazuha nodded.

“Well, uhh I like you.”

It went silent, even the sounds coming from the hull of the ship hitting the sea became quiet. So did the wind, blowing subtly. The sounds of crew members downstairs even came to an end. It felt as if the universe had planned this. It felt like this atmosphere was divined for them.

Kazuha cleared his throat, cutting the long string of silence. The sea hitting the hull of the ship continued loudly, the breeze continued to blow and the crew members continued their chatter.

“I like you too.”

This childish confession felt like a lovesick girl and boy in high school giving each other little love notes until their admitting finally came along. However, this was good enough because the next few moments were a blur before their lips were on each others. Kazuha’s hands fumbled to find Beidou’s waist, tugging her closer to him while she responded with a gasp.

This kissing thing was all very sudden for her, taking any action would feel quite embarrassing. But for the next few seconds at least they relished in this moment.

Finally, Beidou pulled away, wiping her mouth, her face flushed and hot, Kazuha was no different. To their surprise, laughter soon resonated strongly in the air, hearty and humble laughter filled the romantic air.

“Ah, so… what’re we now?”

Beidou asked, cutting off the laughter while rubbing her nape. She was quite shy, to Kazuha’s surprise, but it seemed most likely that she was inexperienced.

Kazuha smiled with a face full of red, he took Beidou’s hand.

“Dating, I suppose.”

They stood there on comfortable silence, finding comfort in only each other’s gaze. The wind softly blew their hair northbound, their next destination, Fontaine.

“Heh… I told you Yaoyao!”

Xiangling whispered with excitement. Yaoyao giggled and rested her cheek on her palm, shaking her head.

“Okay, okayyy, I’ll see how much Mora I can give, hehe.”

Xiangling laughed quietly and watched the two slowly fall in love.
