Of all the places James could sleep, which really their were only two, the sixth year Slytherin boys dorm was not one he was meant to sleep in. He had the seventh year Gryffindor boys dorm, and there was the head's dorm where he had his own bedroom. But no, his favourite place was the single bed in the sixth year Slytherin boys dorm room that belonged to Barty.
Really, he could have just asked Barty to come to the heads' dorm. Lily wouldn't mind, she had Mary over all the time. But no, James much preferred sneaking into Barty's room.
He had the invisibility cloak after all, it might as well be put to use. He knew the password to the common room, and it was nice. There was just something nice to sneaking into Barty's dorm room and slipping into bed beside him.
James held the invisibility cloak close to him as he slipped out of the heads' dorm room. It wasn't exactly a quick walk from the fifth floor, where the heads dorm was, down to the dungeons. At least it wasn't the Gryffindor common room, he had that going for him.
Once he got down to the dungeons he found the right part of the plain grey brick will and whispered the password. The wall slid open, revealing the empty slytherin common room. It was an assault of green on the eyes, but James slipped in anyway. Even without the fire still safely burning away in the fireplace, and the few lanterns on the wall lit, James would've been able to get to Barty's dorm room.
He'd memorised the route, he'd be able to walk there blindfolded. Not that he had too, but he could if it for some reason he had to. It was easy to follow the route further down into the dungeon and to the the sixth year boys dorm.
The door creaked open and James slipped inside. Barty's roommates, Regulus and Evan, were used to him to coming and going. Once the door had finished creaking shut, James shrugged the cloak off and dropped it on top of Barty's trunk.
It was almost second nature to pull back the curtains around Barty's bed and slip inside. Barty hummed slightly, still asleep, as James moved into the bed beside him. He started to stir as James slipped himself into Barty's arms.
"Jamie?" Barty asked quietly, snuggling into James just slightly.
"Yeah, it's me," James whispered back. Barty hummed, and held him a little tighter. He'd gotten used to James sneaking into his bed in the middle of the night, and it had become almost routine for them.
"Missed you," Barty muttered into James' hair. Barty was the shorter of the two, but anytime James slipped into Barty's bed, into his arms, he liked to feel smaller. He liked to be held, and he liked to burrow his head into Barty's chest.
