Coming back so soon was a surprise, for both him and Buck, who is currently letting them stay at his house. It’s weird being back and seeing it almost the same but with some differences, must of the pictures he had with Chris’s are still up, but there are new ones, with, Jee, Maddie, Chim and the 118 fam, there are even some pictures of Chris he hasn’t seen before. The house feels like Buck’s, but also Chris and Eddie’s, he hadn’t realize how easily it could blend, it felt even more like home.
Buck received them with open arms and a smile, sunflowers at the dinner table and all. He even prepared a full meal for them, and after the long drive back it was more than appreciated.
Chris had also been in a good mood, at least for a teenager, he had let buck hug him, the ones where he picks him up, like when he was a child, he hadn’t thought until that moment how much they must had missed each other, judging by their tear stained eyes it was a lot.
They haven’t talked about logistics, Eddie was planing on just sleeping on the couch for the time being, but Buck had insisted they could share, the bed was big enough for both of them.
That’s how he finds himself here, looking at the bedroom’s ceiling, it’s raining outside and a thunderstorm is right on its way.
Eddie is not asleep yet, but he is nearly there when there is a nock on the door, he feels Buck move beside him.
“Come on in Chris” he says, and his son enters the room, his hair is all over the place and he looks exhausted.
“Mmm” he mumbles “can I stay with you guys?” He asks shyly as if ashamed that a 14 year old wants to sleep on their parent’s room, he would never let his son feel like that, regardless of age, especially after all they just went through.
“Sure bud, come on in” he and Buck move the covers to let him in, he land’s between them, snuggling up to Buck, who doesn’t seem to mind but it hurts Eddie a little bit. Chris must have seen something on his face because he says “tsunami” as an explanation, he shares a look with Buck and then nods to Chris and lays on his back. “Good night Chris, Buck”
“Night Eddie”
“Night dad”
He is not sure how long he stays like that in the darkness, unable to sleep, just hearing their breathing. Once he is sure both of them are asleep he turns on his side.
He can’t believe he is finally back home, he studies Buck, whose hair is curlier than ever and has a protective arm around his son, his son, who he loves, who bucks loves too, he feels like shit for insinuating otherwise, and the truth comes easily as well, he loves Buck, he has known that for years, just not in a I am in love with my best friend way. But is so easy to see, to picture a life just the three of them, it makes his heart soar, he runs his hand through Chris hair, then buck’s, and then gives each a forehead kiss, making sure not to wake them up. He has everything he had always wanted right in front of him, and there is no way he will ever let them go again.
