Work Text:
The screen lights up the dark as the hands of the person holding shake for a moment. Thumbs hover over the letters, hesitating on what or if to type.
They eventually settle for “Can we get real for a moment…like serious?”.
The words [Taylor is thinking…] appear for a few moments across the screen for a moment and then, finally “Yeah, go for it…what’s on your mind?”
For a moment they fantasize about being honest…how freeing that could be. If they finally let all the things they felt deep in their heart, hidden and pressed down, out into the light. They type and type and for several minutes, writing out a long string of words, trying to best put into words something that was essentially indescribable. They stare at it for a moment but right as they were about to send it, they hesitate.
No. This wasn’t right. They were light years apart and would likely never know each other’s faces or stand in the same place. Even if they could be on the same planet one day, neither would know who to look for. Not to mention that Taylor had bigger things to worry about than the silly, fluffy personal feelings of the person who was supposed to be helping them out of this whole situation.
They delete it all.
Another message pops up and they can practically hear the nervous laughter in Taylor’s voice on the other end “You good man? You’ve uh…you’ve been typing there for a long time. Must be a big one…”
“Sorry to keep you waiting. I just wanted to say I’m glad for the opportunity to help you through this…you shouldn’t have to tough it alone. Also uh…goodnight”
