Attempted Duet

Summary:

> Elsa and Anna [frozen] [ambiguous relationship]: orchestra AU in which Elsa is a cellist and Anna is a violinist. Anna is NOT with kristoff. she can be a little bit obsessed with her sister as a treat 🙂 include a duet and late-night practice. bonus points for codependent q-prisms and Love (tagged dead dove for pseudo-incest??)

Anna was gonna be mad at Elsa for getting asked out by her crush- she was! She really cared about this one... totally.
It's not as important as practicing with her, though.

Notes:

So there's no explicit romance, or sexual context- but they do like each other, they just don't want to know that.
Ambiguous relationship, in that they aren't explicitly siblings, just known each other for a long time, can be read as childhood friends.

Don't Like, Don't Read- and all that shit, don't be a dick, etc. etc.

Work Text:

Elsa raised her eyebrow, “Excuse me?”

Kristoff quickly backed down at the look, “Well… I was just, y’know… umm, drinks?” His hand, which was hovering as if to touch her, quickly left to scratch the back of his neck.

Elsa slowly looked him over, letting the disdain in her gaze fulfill any requirement of an answer.

He fled, predictably and like all the others.

Good, He wasn’t good enough for Elsa.

Though he was really cute, Anna thought, and kind, he’s always been really helpful to me… That’s why I liked him– I guess that’s done now.

She let the guise of watching Kristoff let her stare at Elsa longer. She had always been pretty, the naturally white hair, light eyes, and willowy figure making her exemplary at any age. Anna clutched her violin tighter, the delicate strings protesting the pressure, and Elsa turned back to her cello. Her hands carefully put the instrument away, always exact in her movements, everything planned and executed to perfection.

Because, she was just that: Perfect. While there were others that would debate it, Anna knew Elsa was the best player in the orchestra– And clearly Kristoff agreed. It’s not her fault, Anna never told Elsa about him, she always felt awkward talking with her about her crushes and desires.

But it would still take her a while to get over this… it would, she definitely wouldn’t move on in a second, because she really liked Kristoff, she did…

“Anna?” Elsa’s voice cut through her thoughts, and Anna almost dropped her violin in shock. “Are you alright?”

“Yes! I mean– yes. I’m alright, I was just lost in you, my you, your thoughts–” Shit, get yourself together, Anna took a breath, “I was lost in my thoughts, but I am okay. Are you okay?”

Elsa smiled, a slow pull of her pink lips over her teeth, as her face softened and her eyes lit up in (hopefully) amusement at Anna’s blunder. “Better now. Are you practicing later?”

“Uh, yeah- at the main center, tomorrow around 6pm. It was the only time I could book it for two people”

Elsa nodded and moved to leave, elegantly stepping around the still packing musicians as she left through the door

The thought of practicing alone never occurred to either of them

Anna stepped through the doors of the practice room, the heavy door slowly closed shut, the sound proofing panels lined the walls, a thinner padding lined the ceiling and floors. She placed her violin case on the floor and fell into one of the available chairs.

Her watch showed 5:56, Elsa would show up at 6 on the dot, like she always did.

Now it’s just waiting, and waiting…. And waiting some more

Anna was good at waiting– so good. Like, she could wait forever.

What time was it?

5:57

Back to waiting…

Finally the door opened silently, and Elsa stepped through. She had changed out of her strict black clothes from yesterday, and now wore more layers in soft blues and greys.

She smiled when she saw Anna, and held up a small tray holding a coffee (2 creamers) and a hot chocolate (2 extra sugars). The baggie she held in her other hand held two brownies. They both had the other’s order’s memorized from long ago. Elsa sat down on the other chair, and they both drank from their cups in silence for a second, before Anna finally broached the question.

“Sooooo… I saw you and Kristoff.”

Elsa designed to roll her eyes, “I can’t stand guys like him. If you can’t handle me looking at you, exactly how do you think you could handle dating me? Seriously, they all run off so quick like the spineless people they are.” she took another sip from her coffee, “They don’t know me either, why would I want to be with someone I don’t know.”

“I get that, ‘If you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best’, and all that.” Anna covered her mouth as she spoke through a bite of brownie

Elsa raised her cup in agreement, her eyes lingering on Anna’s throat as she swallowed.  A minute of silence fell as they both ate, before Elsa spoke, “What kind of person would you want?”

Anna looked away and said, “Oh! Umm… I guess someone strong? Someone who’s sure about what they want. Driven, I guess”

“So, someone who is direct, and wouldn’t equivocate about something they wanted” Elsa said in a dejected tone, looking down as well.

“Yeah… What about you?” Anna turned the question around, already dreading the answer.

Elsa looked up at her, then quickly glanced away, and then finally spoke after a short pause. “Someone positive, Someone who knows me and still sticks around.” Her eyes glazed over a little and she continued in a dreamy tone, “I’d like someone I can trust and can make me happy just by being there.” She quickly composed herself, and glanced at Anna. “But I’m not looking for anyone right now.” She cleared her throat “We should start playing”

“Right, right… Let’s play.”

They both raised their instruments, determinedly looked at their scripts, and began to play.
