A Break in The Clouds

Summary:

Katana talks to you at a rainy bus stop

Work Text:

The rain pattered against the glass roof of the bus stop, drowning the pavement below your feet in a thin sheen. Green and golden leaves carried themselves down the near-overflowing stream, seeming to swim through the currents in a playful race amongst themselves. A sharp contrast to your worn out form.

Your eyes sunk with exhaustion as you watched the flowers beaten down by the rain. The days seem to march in analogous dullness, blurring into each-other like the gray clouds that swirled overhead. You almost can never understand how others seem to be so good at living a monotonous life. How people seem to be so good at living a life at all, perhaps.

“The best you can do is to try your hardest.” Your gaze flicked up, searching for the voice that had interrupted your own thoughts. A masculine inphernal of tall stature had settled beside your body while you had been lost in your head. “And I believe you have.” They add after a quiet pause, as if letting the rain have its own input.

A porcelain mask covered their face, though by the scars dug into their body, it was easy to imagine that they were laboring their way through their own struggle. Their traditional Theives Denian clothes, drenched by the downpour, clung to their jet black feathers, though they seemed less than perturbed by it.

“I believe one must take a break, every once and awhile.” They continued slowly, once realizing that you would not respond. “A flower cannot constantly fight the rain to grow. It needs to rest in the sun as well.” They gestured to you with a talon. “You have made it far. Please, take some time in the sun. You deserve nothing less.”

As he finished speaking, the bus came speeding down the road, cutting the surface of the wet road with its thick wheels. The demon gave you a small nod, before they stood up and boarded the bus, leaving a trail of puddles in the wake of their dripping haori.
