After Edelgard, Byleth, and the Black Eagles had escaped from Rhea, Edelgard began telling the others about her plans to go to war with the church.
“Do you think we should try some diplomacy first?” Byleth wondered. “I mean, I know Rhea tried to kill you, but even then, maybe you could, like, demand that she resign, or demand that the church denounce her, or something. Even if diplomacy doesn’t work, it will still look good that you tried. You don’t want other countries to think you’re starting wars for no reason. If Rhea follows through on her threats and tries to kill us again, then we’ll be completely justified in fighting back and defending ourselves.”
Edelgard sighed. “You’re right, of course. I was being too hasty, I apologize. Yes, let’s hold off on starting a war. For now, we’ll focus on diplomacy and propaganda.”
