Chapter Text
The mission in Zaun had been difficult. But Caitlyn and Vi had made it through, finishing their goal and ensuring Piltover’s safety once more. They were ready to leave, but something stopped them.
A silent noise echoed from a darkened street. Vi turned, her eyes watching the shadows. Caitlyn followed, hand on her rifle.
There, curled against a wall, was a small girl—no older than five, her body covered in bruises and dirt. She flinched at them, fear in the eyes.
Vi crouched down “Hey, kid… what are you doing here? Alone?
The girl didn’t answer, just shook and tried to hide her face. Caitlyn’s heart ache on what she saw “Vi, we can’t leave her here.” Vi answered shortly. “Yeah. I know.”
Carefully, Vi put down her jacket and gently draped it over the girl. The child looked scared, but Caitlyn crouched next to her with a smile. “It’s okay,” Caitlyn said. “We’re not here to hurt you. We want to help.”
The girl hesitated, but nodded her head. That was enough encouragement Vi needed. Taking the child into her arms, she felt just how small and skinny she was.
They took her back to the Kiramman residence, a which was contrast to the dark streets of Zaun. The girl turned her head, taking in the rooms. She was still very tense and afraid.
“Alright, let’s wash you,” Vi smiled, trying to encourage little girl. Caitlyn filled bath with warm water and with gently helped her wash the dirt from the body. She was scared of the touch at first, but she slowly relaxed in warm bath. Vi carefully washed her hair, humming softly. Caitlyn dried her off, wrapping her in a towel before helping her into a clean clothes they bought on the way home.
When they brought her to the dining room, they set a meal for her. The child stared at the plate, hesitant, if the food was really for her. Caitlyn sat next to her. “You can eat as much as you like.”
Slow cautious bite turned into hurried eating, as if she was worried that the food will be taken away. Vi and Caitlyn looked at each other, both feeling an urge to protect this girl.
That night, they tucked her to bed, but as they turned to leave, a small hand reached out, grabbing to Vi’s hand.
“Stay?” The voice was barely a whisper, but it made Vi’s heart melt.
Caitlyn smiled. “Of course.”
Vi sat on one side of the bed, Caitlyn on the other, and the girl nestled between them. In that moment, they knew this child, who had no one, had just got two protective guardians.
