Work Text:
Dawn wakes up screaming. Her mind spins as she clenches her teeth and grasps at the blankets that cover her body. She knew that there would be some pain, she was hit by a wall of ice and was buried for almost four hours before rescue teams pulled her out of the avalanche. But this! It feels like her blood is turning to ice in her veins, crystallizing and cutting her from a thousand cuts within her own body.
As the air in her lungs exhausts itself she tries to take a breath, but she can’t, her lungs are freezing from the inside.
“Am I going to die like this? What is even happening to me?” She is barely able to form the thoughts as she experiences the worst sensation of brain freeze anyone could imagine as her brain was freezing at a rapid pace. She then recalls the voice in her head when she was laying under all of that ice and snow. “I can help you. Just let me in. Allow me to take care of everything.” She thought it was a hallucination from the shock or the cold. But what if? As her eyes frost over and she begins to lose consciousness a large warm hand firmly envelopes her left hand. It feels as hot as the sun but doesn’t burn. Then another hand presses itself against the side of her face and a man’s voice calls out to her.
“What’s your name?” The voice is gentle and pairs perfectly with the feeling flowing from the man’s hands. The flood of warmth thaws her body almost immediately but the pain still lingers.
“What? Who are you? Why are you in my room?” Dawn asks through the raw feeling in her throat.
She was still staying in her room at the resort after the avalanche while the roads were out. She is supposed to head to the hospital tomorrow but she doesn’t recognize the gentle voice that accompanies the warm feeling that flows through those hands.
“You don’t need to play nice with her, ask her the demon's name, she’ll be fine after we’re done!” Another voice sounds out from the other side of the bed, the voice is harsh and straining. Dawn tries to look at the men belonging to the two voices but one is shrouded in light, the one holding her hand, and the other is shrouded in a swirling haze of dark fog.
“Be patient Dean, we aren’t animals. We aren’t right?”
“Fine, just get it done, I'm getting tired here Cas!” The man called Dean is acting as the center of a spell holding back the demon that has attached itself to Dawn and is apparently irritated by acting with restraint.
“Demon? What do you ahh! It hurts!” Dawn writhes in pain as the demon fights to remain attached to her. Its laughter echoes in her mind wanting the hunter to get impatient and kill the host. That’s what it wants though, unlike typical demonic possessions this demon has bound itself physically to Dawn’s body not her soul. When she dies it will be freed into the world rather than be sent back to hell when Dawn’s soul is drawn there.
Cas reaches down while he caresses her head continuing to lightly squeeze her hand. “It’s going to be okay, just focus on my voice. You don’t hear or feel anything but my voice. Breathe and speak when you are able.”
The man’s voice sounds angelic to Dawn’s ears and soothes her aching body and even her burning soul. “Dawn. My name is Dawn.”
“Hi Dawn, my name is Cas, it’s nice to meet you. I need you to tell me what the demon asked of you.”
“It asked me to let it in.”
“Exactly what it said.” The voice belonging to the man called Dean clarifies and the feeling coming from the other man pulls at her mind again, coaxing an answer.
“It said I can help you. Just let me in. Allow me to take care of everything. After that I think I fell asleep.”
“It’s bound itself to her physically. This just keeps getting better.” Dean says to himself, Cas doesn’t need to be reminded how demonic possession works.
The demon is surprised that the hunter figured it out so fast but it’s still prideful. The woman gave it access without exchanging names; there is no way for them to send it back to hell unless it gives up its name willingly. It had been looking forward to experiencing the world through this woman for a while but eventually she would die and it would be free to play on earth forever, this just changed the timeline.
The only way that it could be coerced is if it was compelled by a being of the light. And there’s no way that could…
Suddenly a piercing light pours through Dawn’s lips and throughout her body lighting the demonic essence bound within her body aflame in heavenly radiance.
“What the fuck! No!” The demon screams out. “How could I be so unlucky. A Nephilim was here! Fuck! A hundred years wasted on this attempt! Whatever, when I get back to hell I’ll just alter my next plan…”
“No you won’t. Dean, its name is Cassiphoth.”
“Well that’s a funny coincidence, haha!” Dean laughs and begins chanting a spell that seems to sound like a combination of Latin and Aramaic before calling out “Cassiphoth” three times.
The demon screams as it realizes that it’s not being sent back to hell, it’s being sent to heaven! But demonic souls cannot survive the trip from earth to heaven, only a demon that earns absolution in hell can survive the trip. “Angel!” Cassiphoth screams out one last time as its soul is pulled out of Dawn’s body and is granted permission to make the trip to heaven. It burns in the heavenly radiance ending the demon's existence on every level under the laws set by God and the Devil when the war for earth began.
“The big guy is gonna be pissed when he finds out that you involved yourself here Cas. Good for you!” Dean is exhausted but quite content with what happened here even if his friend kind of broke the rules.
“Hey. You should buy me a drink before you kiss me!” Dawn immediately regains her sense of humor after the pain stops racking her body. But she heard everything in her mind, and she was just kissed and saved by an actual angel!
