Lavender Haze Mysteries

Chapter 1:
The Case of the Missing Macarons
The smell of vanilla and fresh lavender filled Lavender Haze as Taylor dusted flour off her hands, watching Karlie carefully shape a batch of their signature snake-shaped cookies.
"Okay, I’m just saying," Taylor began, tying her apron tighter, "if you were going to start a small-town crime spree, stealing baked goods is a weird choice."
Karlie smirked. "Are you accusing our customers of being part of a pastry heist?" "I’m accusing someone
. That’s the third time this week a batch of macarons has gone missing. And I know it’s not me eating them." Karlie raised an eyebrow. "You do stress-eat when you're songwriting." Taylor waved a hand.
"Irrelevant." Before Karlie could argue, the bell above the bakery door jingled. In walked Ms. Henderson, their sweetest (and most nosy) customer.
She leaned in conspiratorially. "Girls," she whispered, "I saw something suspicious last night. A shadowy figure sneaking around your back door." Karlie and Taylor exchanged a look. "Could be a raccoon," Karlie suggested. "A very organized raccoon," Taylor countered.
"One who prefers macarons over the trash can out back?" Ms. Henderson gasped. "Do you think it could be... him?"
Taylor leaned in. "Who's him?" "The Midnight Thief," Ms. Henderson whispered dramatically. Karlie fought back a laugh. "That sounds like a rejected song title, babe." Taylor ignored her. "Do we have a description of this Midnight Thief?"
Ms. Henderson nodded solemnly. "Tall. Slender. Moves like a shadow." Karlie blinked. "...So, like, me?" Taylor snorted. "Karlie, have you been sleepwalking into our own bakery to steal macarons?" Karlie held up her hands. "I plead the fifth."
Ms. Henderson gasped again. "It could be Karlie!" "Okay, we need to investigate," Taylor declared. "Tonight, we stake out the bakery. If the Midnight Thief wants our macarons, they’ll have to get through us first." Karlie sighed, grabbing a tray of snake cookies. "Fine. But if we’re staying up all night, I’m making extra coffee."
Taylor grinned. "That’s why I love you." Karlie kissed her on the cheek. "That, and my superior baking skills." Taylor rolled her eyes. "Debatable." As they prepared for their first Lavender Haze mystery, one thing was certain—small-town life was a lot more eventful than they had expected
. And if they had to solve crimes while covered in flour and cinnamon? Well, that was just part of the job
