Work Text:
Mikey’s arms were warm around Edgar as they lay in his cabin watching some shitty late night comedy show. Background noise neither of them were paying attention, having chosen to remain on the couch after watching a movie. It was another weird surrealist film that Edgar barely understood but which Mikey had seen before, meaning he spent half the time talking over the actors to explain the plot. Edgar still didn't get it, and Mikey had given up by the time the credits had rolled, letting them cuddle with only the softly chattering TV breaking the silence they had slipped into. Edgar could feel Mikey’s chest rise and fall beneath him with the slow, deep breaths of oncoming slumber. As comfortable as they both were right now, sleeping on the couch would be a bad idea.
“Mikey-bear don’t fall asleep here,” he said as he looked up to find his boyfriends' eyes closed. “You have patrol in the morning.”
Mikey hummed in acknowledgement, though kept his eyelids shut. Edgar began gently prodding the arm which trapped him in Mikey’s embrace, eliciting a mumbled, “I’ll be fine Panther.” Edgar just rolled his eyes and instead lifted the arm off himself to begin getting up.
“Hey,” Mikey protested, finally waking up, but only in order to cling onto Edgar tighter, keeping him down on top of Mikey’s chest. “Where do you think you’re–”
Mikey’s voice was cut off as he disappeared from the room, causing Edgar to fall down into the cushions, into the space Mikey’s body once occupied. The TV was now blearing some stupid advertisement about a mattress with a 100-night trial. Though Edgar could feel Mikey's leftover heat on the couch cushions, it was an empty warmth. It proclaimed the absence of its progenitor.
Somebody had stolen his Mikey-bear. Again.
He turned off the TV as he stood. In the silence that now reigned Edgar strained his ears, hoping to hear a knock on the door announcing Mikey’s swift return. With hair much too long but which Edgar could help him shave in the morning.
Nothing.
He would start the paperwork in the morning.
