It’s been months since Aleida Edevane returned home from his Victory, and he’s only dug a deeper hole for himself.
Drinking. Drugs. Meaningless hookups. Nothing is enough to stop the pain.
Nothing except his guitar.
It took weeks for him to look at the damn thing, and even longer for him to brave picking it up.
It reminds him too much of his brother. The brother who he hasn’t seen since his return. The brother who disowned him the second Aleida volunteered.
One of his nameless hookups saw the thing. He pressured Aleida to pick it up and play him something.
Aleida obliged. Not for the boy, no. For himself.
To prove he’s more than the District made him out to be.
One song turned into two, and soon enough Aleida was playing in his Victor’s Village home daily.
It led him to where he is today, playing in the largest bar in the district with a crowd of people watching him onstage.
(This is the stage he belongs to. Not the Capitol stage, being praised for his murders, but one where he’s being praised for his music.)
He can get used to this.
