Work Text:
Honestly, Matt should have suspected he might get a show on the last day in Hawaii. Him and Alex had been working so hard, pushing them to their limits, so to have time off before they had to head out to their next string of concerts sounded nice - even if it was for one night only.
However, right now, Matt’s desperately trying not to grin as Alex trips over his words for the fourth time in the same story he’d heard once or twice before, cheeks flushed and glass with the night’s last round of sangria this close to falling off the stars but they’ve found themselves at just outside their hotel on the beach.
He looks so wholesome like this, all the chaos he normally was softened around the edges and clearly, a little too sloshed to function as he leans into Matt’s space multiple times like he’s telling him a secret when he’s as loud as anything, the breeze from him swaying crashing into him like waves.
Matt’s also buzzed, having drunk a healthy dose of the same pitcher they’d been sharing, but given his height gives him an advantage in holding his liquor department, his cheeks are only a little pink and he’s still able to walk straight (mostly) so he considers that a win. He can also remember what number their hotel room is, his eyes automatically finding the room as tropical coloured neon buzzes around him.
It’s not the only thing he has his eyes on, however.
Not to talk up the fact he’s pining over a drunk man and that Matt knows (hopes) he is better behaved than most people, but Alex is making it hard to think, his head spinning as he takes in the slightly older man as he laughs against the bar at something he said, slightly sun kissed skin from being outside for most of the trip tempting Matt’s lips.
He wants to just drink him in right now, more than the booze and it seems Alex has the same idea as he catches Matt’s eye and smirks, plastered behind his glasses (which are actually Matt’s sunglasses, thankyou) in a way that makes Matt swallow.
He doesn't pretend there isn’t another buzz, more electric this time, when they join hands.
Of course, it’s a bit of a balancing act to get themselves back to their room to actually do anything. As already proven before, Alex is a mess and unsteady on his feet, so instead of a slow shuffle towards their hotel, it’s more like they are wrecking the joint, Alex teetering back and forth as Matt tries to guide them, his shoes in his hand and not on his feet where they should be.
Alex doesn’t make it any better for either of them when he starts running hands up Matt’s shirt either, much to his pout and disappointment when Matt tells him so through controlled laughter, which Matt kisses away, still tasting the sugar and tartness of the red wine as he holds Alex’s hips to walk him, Alex’s arms around his waist.
Falling against the door and hitting his head also wasn’t in his plans as well, but Alex isn’t exactly playing above board to get what he and Matt clearly both want, so when he reaches up after Matt lets out a groan and pushes his tongue into his, Matt relents.
It’s wild and wet and warm and if they continue like this, Matt will never get them inside, so he does the only noble thing and lifts Alex’s entire body up between kisses so he can find the door key in his pocket before he’s pushing it open, both of them laughing at each other with Alex’s legs settled around his waist.
They fall again, but this time on the bed in a pile of giggling, tired limbs they flop out everywhere here and there, heads turning after they settle down to stare at the other.
Alex’s eyes look at him like he’s hung the moon and stars and it honestly takes Matt’s breath away for a minute before it’s back because…he’s just glad they get to do this together. Tour. Music. Love. Life. All of it.
Leaning in, Matt bumps his forehead and nose against the others and Alex responds in kind, sunglasses somehow now nowhere to be seen, the man’s slightly sand covered toes against his shins, causing them to itch a fair bit. He didn’t care, however.
That was a problem for tomorrow Matt.
Right now, as he pulled Alex into a warm embrace and watched as the man cuddled up to his chest before his eyes closed, Matt couldn’t help it feel complete in this moment, closing his own eyes with a smile and a kiss pressed somewhere into Alex’s sweat covered hair as the sounds of the ocean, slightly muffled by the walls, provided a decent backdrop for both of them to sleep.
Yeah, he could get used to this.
