Work Text:
Franziska daubed away sweat from her temples with a paper towel. Even four gins and tonic in, she disliked having a slovenly appearance.
“Dyke Night” was popular at the local gay club. Women flocked in every month to find an eligible butch or femme to sweep them off their feet, and the scene was known for a very amorous crowd.
That meant bodies heating up the room, close quarters, lots of sweat and pheromones. Not Franziska’s or Adrian’s usual scene, but it had been fun to dance with her girlfriend and let loose after a busy week.
But Adrian had gone overboard—she’d been swaying unsteadily during their last dance, and Franziska had parked her by the wall with a cup of water while she’d gone to the bathroom.
I should get back to her. Franziska discarded the paper towel and made her way through the wall of blaring bass and dancing dykes.
As she shuffled her way through the crowd, she saw a commotion. A jostling mass of people, and someone shrieking.
Franziska’s heart nearly stopped in panic. Was Adrian in there? Was she being attacked? Fighting the alcohol buzz to clear her thoughts, Franziska tried to push through.
And then Franziska heard it: “Where is my fucking girlfriend?”
Oh no. She knew that voice.
“Girl, you have got to calm down,” came another husky voice. “No one took your girlfriend—please, just—”
“WHERE IS SHE.”
“Excuse me!” Franziska yelled upward into their ear of a tall woman blocking her path. “That’s my girlfriend in there.”
“Oh my god, go,” said the woman, guiding her in by the shoulders. “Before security drags her out.”
“Adrian!” Franziska yelled, running to separate her from the bewildered-looking old butch in a cutoff tank whose arm she was gripping desperately. “I’m so, so sorry,” she apologized to the woman. “She’s had too much.”
“She’s mine, okay?” Adrian slurred. Clammy hands gripped the side of Franziska’s cutout dress and drew her into a sloppy embrace. “No one else can have her…she’s mine.”
Franziska’s heart skipped a beat for an entirely different reason at that moment. She blushed.
“Ahh, young love,” said the butch into Franziska’s ear, clapping her on the shoulders before departing.
“Mmmm, hibabey….” Adrian slurred into Franziska’s neck. “I thought you disappeared and left me all alone….”
“I’m right here, darling.” Franziska kissed her damp forehead. “Come, let’s get you home. I’ll fetch us a cab.”
