Work Text:

Morning rolled over the sky, Fyodor's lashes carefully peeling apart as he awoke. He wasn't facing the window so adjusting his eyes to the light went well enough. Dazai was still fast asleep, his body warm and moving in his hands.

One of Fyodor's arms was trapped underneath Dazai's body, unable to do anything but gently rub his back. The circulation had been cut off for awhile now, but Fyodor was also crushing one of Dazai's arms so he called it even. The other lay against Dazai's waist, left to sit there and rise and fall as he slept so peacefully. Dazai's breath was up against his collar bones, lightly tickling him.

The sun was warm against Fyodor's skin, but Dazai was warmer. This wasn't the first time Fyodor had woken up first, nor would it be the last. He liked being awake before Dazai, getting to see him so calm and quiet. Fyodor pressed a kiss into Dazai's hair since thats all he could reach right now. He kept his lips there for as long as he could manage. Dazai's hair smelt wonderful as last night they had washed eachother.

Fyodor had gotten sick of the monotany of doing tasks hundres of years ago, and that unfortunately included washing himself. If the opportunity presented itself, he would stay unwashed for weeks. Fortunately, Dazai came into his life. He washed for dates and things, obviously, but when they started living together Dazai noticed Fyodor struggled to get in. Thus, the tradition of washing eachother began. Dazai would carefully wash Fyodor's scalp, and Fyodor would get to peel off those bandages and clense what was underneath.

Sniffing Dazai was definitely odd, but he was right here and nobody else was around. Fyodor let his uncrushed arm slip underneath Dazai's shirt to feel the skin underneath. His scars were bumpy, always scattered. Most people hurt themselves in rows, but Dazai seemed to carve himself up in a new direction everytime. Fyodor did enjoy the texture, despite the depressing method of how they got there. His hand was content to just feel his waist and the side of his rib cage.

A small mumble hit Fyodor's collar. "Good morning..." Dazai's voice was far deeper and a little croaky. He lifted his head up, his spine cracking a little. "How long have you been awake?"

"Only a few minutes. Would you like me to start on breakfast?" Fyodor was happy his arm was finally free, but having Dazai leave was agony. Pins and needles shot through the inside of his arm as it gained its blood flow back.

"No, that's ok." Dazai lifted up his sleeping mask, sliding it back after he decided it was too bright out right now. He sat up, his body crackling in places. "I sound older than you..."

"It's quite alright, dear." Fyodor sat up as well, once again content to be in Dazai's presence. For some reason his brain was entirely quiet around Dazai. Around other people he had to produce thoughts, topics of conversation, easy lies to tell. After an hour or two his brain was reduced to sludge, and yet he still compulsively created these meaningless thoughts. With Dazai though, it was quiet. Even around others, as long as Dazai was there his mind was entirely empty. Even if he wanted to think, or tried, he couldn't. Maybe a passing thought like 'He looks wonderful with eyeliner' or 'I should tell him i'm hungry' but that was it. Even just the mention of Dazai's name was enough to get Fyodor to replace everything in his head.

Dazai stretched his arms up, his shirt lifting with them. Fyodor shamefully enjoys the small sliver of skin.

"I'll put the kettle on." The bed creeked as Fyodor sat up, leaving the room to go downstairs.

Hunger wasn't really a concern currently, honestly eating sounded like it would make him ill. Fyodor decided to simply put some toast on while the kettle boiled. He pulled out Dazai's and his own favoruite mugs, placing tea bags inside. He chose earl gray for himself and green tea for Dazai. They both took it black in the morning so he didn't have to do anything else.

Fyodor used a plate that matched his mug to butter his toast. It wasn't much but it was something, and Dazai could have the other half. He cautiosly brought the items up, keeping his eyes on his feet as he went upstairs. One slip and he would have to wait until his next revival to get rid of the burn scars.

Dazai's eyes had finally accepted sunlight, his sleeping mask sitting on his forehead. "Thank you very much, Fedya." Sipping in tea in bed was Fyodor's favourite part of the day, aside from maybe tea time.

One small kiss was shared between them, the two types of tea mixing on their lips. After finishing breakfast, they quickly began to cuddle again. They were back resting on eachothers limbs, enjoying eachothers soft breaths and sighs.
