Chapter Text
It was spring, Alberu had hear a rumor that the fox twins got adopted by the territory leader.
At first, he was worried about the twins but he remembered those two were foxes, the crazy kinds—one playful and cunning, he made a few enemies here and there, not yet caught by any of his enemies and the other is lazy but outsmarts his opponents if needed. A pair of troublesome foxes.
But he doesn't know what to expect from the twins (being adopted by a territory leader was not one of them). They had done many things and sometimes it drove him crazy. They were crazy bastards who had his back, so he wanted to know if the two were safe, so he decided to visit them.
When he mentions the hawk, the black hawk says no. The hawk had seen a few times where the cotton ball was caught in a situation where he gets eaten by other animals.
With some convincing which took three days to settle with him staying at the foxes' home for the night and returning the next day. The hawk says that returning at night is dangerous for a small cotton ball like him and that he was staying in the cougar territory where the cougars are usually active at night.
He set foot in a territory that was claimed by cougars, he had never been here before. Another animal that eats his species, he pouted. He has been befriending animals that eat his kind.
Alberu sighed, he was walking in circles in the swamp forest. He had not seen a single critter in the area, it's concerning as he was a small squirrel roaming the grounds of large cats.
He didn't want to eat in a forest he had never been before, no thanks.
After an hour of walking and gliding, he decided to stop by a nearby pond, that when he heard something rustling in behind him.
Looking back stands two cougars bigger than the foxes he knew, he didn't expect to meet death early. He blames the foxes for his early death.
He tries to back out but there's only water behind him.
"Hello there, little furball," the older cougar smiles at him with its teeth out, the squirrel tries to sprint into the water to swim away.
But caught in the neck.
"AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH," the squirrel yelled out as loud as he could. The cougar placed him in its fur.
The squirrel was putting up his small guard, he was still anxious about this out-of-the-box predicament.
The cougar that placed him in his fur slowly walked with him in its back, its fur rumbled with a slight chuckle in his body, the squirrel guessed that the cougar found the situation funny.
"You must be the flying squirrel that my two youngest sons talk about," the cougar replied as the squirrel started slowly blinking his eyes.
"They said that if we found a furball will scream when he is in danger, that's the squirrel that we are supposed to find," the cougar that he was seat at informed with a tone of amusement and authority.
The squirrel pouts, he did what the foxes told him to shout if something happened to him so that a few animals could hear the commotion he made with it.
While it never worked two times, one was he was in the sky strangled in Soohyok claws, and the second one, right now…
There's no one to answer his call.
"Are your youngest children, Cale and Roksoo?"
"Ah, they are," the cougar replied, humming, "I am Ron, and beside me is my son, Beacrox."
The squirrel saw the other younger cougar peek back at him, the cougar bowed a bit and the squirrel did the same.
The ride back to the cougar's home was awkward for Alberu, the cougars are too quiet like the youngest fox but the youngest fox would talk back with him.
When they saw the two foxes talking to each other, only then did the older fox glance at the cougars, "Furball, you're here. How's the ride?"
Alberu slowly removed himself from the cougar and walked to the languid fox lazy fur, where he was safe, the squirrel nodded to the older cougar, "Thank you, Ron-nim for the ride. "
"You're welcome, little one," the cougars answered back with a smile that rumbled his and the languid fox furs.
Rokso checks the little furball with his snout and his paw, checking for anything wrong with the squirrel, and with a long heavy sigh, he returns the squirrel in his fur.
Cale stifles a laughter, glancing at the fox squirrel duo, "Brother, nothing bad will happen with the hawk around him."
The squirrel glances back at the playful fox. Cale scoffs while tilting his head to the cougars, "They had met the hawk first before you, why else it take you so long to find us."
Alberu glances up at the tree where he can see something shuffling in the trees, the squirrel glared at the spot, "You followed me…"
The hawk emerged from the trees, head low, "I was-"
The squirrel disappeared into the fox fur, Roksoo shook his head for the hawk as if to say it was his fault. Cale loudly laughs, choking his words, "Are you that scared that the furball will vanish orbe eaten by something?"
The hawk nods, "When I heard that he was visiting the cougar's territory, I was thinking of checking it out before he did but I got caught spying on them."
The hawk looks at the two cougars that found him out early. The cougar's fur was clean and perfect even after chasing him.
Sighing deeply, the hawk glanced at the place where the squirrel disappeared at, "I will be back tomorrow to pick you up, you must be exhausted from the journey, Goodnight, cotton ball."
The hawk flew away.
The languid fox shook his fur and took the furball out of his fur, patting the furball fur, "Alberu, are you okay to leave him alone?"
The furball nods, he will meet up with the hawk tomorrow. Being mad with the hawk will make everything worse.
