Mafuyu had just finished archery club, now returning back home. Home to Kanade, her lovely girlfriend who let Mafuyu stay with her after she ran away. Mafuyu couldn't be more thankful.
"Hmm? Asahina, isn't that your mother?" Shizuku asked, pointing at the lady standing in front of the school's entrance. Mafuyu felt her heart drop. She noticed that purple hair anywhere.
"I- Uh- I-" Mafuyu's persona dropped, her heart racing. What was her mother doing here? Did she want Mafuyu to go back? Go back to that 'good girl'?
Shizuku immeditely noticed something was wrong. Was it just her imagination or was Mafuyu at the verge of a panic attack? Without thinking, she pulled Mafuyu away from the entrance. "S-Suzuki! I need to ask something!" Shizuku said, using a different name so Mafuyu's mom wouldn't notice. They ran all the way to the back entrance.
"H-Hinomori? What are you-" Mafuyu asked, trying to pull her persona back up.
"Asahina, I don't know what's going on... But I don't think you should go back home through the front entrance. Use the back door, and... If there's anything troubling you, you can tell me okay?" Shizuku said. Mafuyu nodded, and thanked Shizuku. She walked back home, trying to fight the thoughts of her mom.
"Mafuyu? You're home late... Did something happen?" Kanade seemed panicked the moment she saw Mafuyu's pained expression. Mafuyu rested her head on her girlfriend's shoulder, not saying a word. Kanade just hugged her tight.
"My mom... She came to school today. Hinomori helped me so I don't think she noticed... But, I'm- I'm so scared Kanade. Whenever I think about her- There's this tight feeling in my chest! I- I can't..." Mafuyu broke into tears. Kanade hugged her wordlessly, just trying to soothe her. After Mafuyu's tears subsided, Kanade took her to their room.
"You should get some sleep, Mafuyu... Don't worry, I'll figure this out." Mafuyu wanted to question what Kanade meant, but her tired body fell asleep. After Kanade made sure Mafuyu was sleeping, an unreadable expression surfaced. Kanade rarely felt anger, but right now, it was boiling.
Kanade picked up her phone, and started searching. Soon, she came with the perfect plan.
The next day, Kanade walked to Miyamasuzaka Academy. As expected, Mafuyu's mother was waiting. Kanade walked up to her, her eyes glaring.
"Mrs. Asahina. We need to talk." Kanade said. Mrs. Asahina looked surprised, but quickly tried to form a smile.
"Ah, Ms. Yoisaki. I heard from my husband that Mafuyu was staying with you. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. I just came here to collect Mafuyu, she'll be- Ack!" Before Mrs. Asahina could finish her speech, Kanade gripped her wrist and dragged her to a dark alley.
"Ms. Yoisaki! What is the meaning of this? I'm just here to take Mafuyu back to her home, entrance exams are coming up and she needs to study to become a-"
"Shut. Up." Kanade said firmly as her hand clasped on Mrs. Asahina's mouth. Mrs. Asahina tried to resist, but to no avail. Where was she getting this strength?
"You listen to me, Mrs. Asahina. Mafuyu does not like you. Mafuyu is scared and afraid of you, because of what you did to her. Mafuyu does not want to become a doctor. This coming entrance exams, Mafuyu is going to apply for nursing schools. Nursing is her passion. You are not going to control my girlfriend like some sick marionette doll. You are not living Mafuyu's life, Mafuyu is not living yours. Now never come here again, and never speak to Mafuyu again." Kanade's voice dropped to a dangerous tone. Mrs. Asahina kept fighting, so Kanade took her hand off of her mouth.
"You have no power, you little wretch! What can you do to stop a mother's love? You don't even have parents!" Mrs. Asahina proceeded to slap her. Kanade felt her face sting, but so far it was going to plan.
"Mrs. Asahina. Look over there." Kanade pointed to a CCTV camera in the alleyway. Mrs. Asahina paled.
"Let's see... The nearest police station just around the corner. Since you slapped me, that's simple assault, ranging to a few months in prison to a few years. Let's add all the harmful words you said to me, that won't be kind to your sentencing. So, what do you want to do? Leave Mafuyu alone right now, or leave this city to go to jail?" Kanade crossed her arms. Mrs. Asahina cursed under her breath.
"Fine. You won. But you'll see, one day you'll regret this!" Mrs. Asahina shouted. Kanade saw her leave and felt all of the energy drain out of her body. She didn't know she could use strength like that when she was angry.
"I'll have to take a nap after this..." Kanade thought as she walked back to Miyamasuzaka. Just in time, Mafuyu was leaving the school and spotted Kanade.
"Kanade?" Mafuyu asked, and Kanade immeidately sinked into her arms. Mafuyu quickly kissed the top of her head.
"Are you coming back from visiting your dad?" Mafuyu asked.
"Mmhmm." Kanade mumbled and buried her face into Mafuyu's shoulder like a child.
"Let's go to the convinience store before we go home, we're out of cup noodles."
"That's really bad for your health, Kanade."
