Work Text:
Buddy had longed wished about what the outside world looked like he’d spend hours walking around his room imaging what the sky looked like how the grass felt, how the breeze would feel on his hair he’d stare at his windowless walls and sigh he believed it was an impossible thought but that never stopped him the sun and sky was beautiful in books but he longed to see it in the real world with his real eyes feel the heat of the sun on his face the sand on beaches in his toes the smell of street food in his nose it was something he longed for and yet he knew it was nearly impossible after all he was locked in Ex-Libra’s and he knew there was no escape once you entered you never got out not alive at least so he expected nothing it was pointless after all.
After spending almost his entire life with Ex-Libras he’s grown to understand that basic needs are known as privileges, and are only given when proven deserved. He had to prove he was worth basic needs so he trained his body to adapt, he had grown skinner and weaker but as long as he survived it didn’t matter. If he could prove he was useful maybe just maybe one day he’d make it out, even if it was impossible he’d still hope.
One day he was told he’d start going into books for the old man, the goth had seen this as an opportunity to prove his worth. And maybe just maybe he’d earn the chance to be treated like a human being. Book work was different than he had originally thought, every day was different some books where easy others were dreadful. Especially since he was given the villainess key making him always suffer at the end, he hated it.
But he adapted, being thrown into an oven? No problem being pushed off a cliff? Sure why not. It was all fake after all. Written in words in a book it wasn’t real it didn’t actually hurt him, after all the suffering in books was better than what he’d go though in the real world. And as long as he never complained he’d have a chance to get on the old man’s good side, even if its a small chance it was better than nothing.
That was until one day, the one thing he was never expecting happened. He found it hard to believe, the goth was walking around in a book looking for the heroine to do his role when instead of a fairy-tale girl he found a short blonde-haired male. Making a mess of the plot line. The old man wouldn’t be happy if he found out about this, buddy started to shake with the fear of having to explain this to the old man and after he was making so much progress to getting on his good side. But did he actually have to tell him? If the old man never finds out he can never get mad. And for the first time in his entire life he was actually willing to keep a secret.
