Chapter Text
It was quiet, which only made sense as it was midnight here, as this place wasn't a big city.
Where was here?
Why Pallet Town, of course. Where the shades of many journeys await. Just like the Journey of our Protagonist who currently was sleeping calmly at
exactly 11:59pm.
*Ring! Ring!*
That was until the clock reached exactly 0:00 and the alarm clock on the night stand right next to his bed started to ring. Waking the child up from his sleep. Immediately, he shot up from his bed and turned off the clock within the first three seconds of it ringing, not wanting to wake up anyone else.
"It's time."
He mumbled to himself as he woke up, knowing full well what he was going to do. He set that alarm clock to midnight for a reason, and he was going to follow through with that.
"To escape from here, to finally not have to waste another minute in this household. To never return to this place, just like she did all that time ago, leaving me to suffer alone." But now wasn't the time to dwell on this, he could let out his frustrations when he's safe.
He stood up from his bed and headed to his closet where he had hid what he needed to flee and what he would need so he wouldn't die as soon as he enters nature. It was all hidden beneath the rest of his clothing, which wasn't that much considering how little he was given, but he managed to make it work.
He grabbed the bag that was hidden beneath all the clothes, which had all the essentials he needed to survive, and put it on his back. He took a deep breath, as he prepared himself for this. If he succeeds, he'll get a new chance, a chance at living a life that'll make him happy. If he fails, he might as well just prepare that he'll die.
He headed to the only Door in his room and grabbed onto the Doorknob, before he turned it to open it, he had a look at the room one more time, it was dark, but he could still make out certain Details within it, thanks to his eyes starting to adjust to the Dark. There was his shelf with the books that he bought over the time, it weren't many as he didn't have that much money available to him in his life, but he appreciated them all for helping him get through some of his toughest days.
Then there was the Dragonite Figurine that he once managed to steal in that store once when his family made a visit to celadon city once. He was lucky to have not gotten in trouble for that one.
His eyes then turned to find a picture frame, that was on the exact same shelf. It was a picture of himself and her. His expression got sad as he saw it, so he immediately moved his view away to above his bed, to where he had two posters hanging. One of them had the former Indigo Champion 'Red' on it, while the other had the current champion of the Indigo League on it, 'Lance'. He still remembered the footage on the Television back when Red challenged Lance for the Champion Title only for Lance to reveal that Red's Rival got the Title before him. He couldn't quite explain why, but he always preferred Red's battle against Lance over the one he had against Blue. Maybe it was because of how humble Lance was in his defeat against Red, when most people would have started to get angry at loosing against a ten-year-old.
They were both Trainers the Child admired and wished to be like. Not in the sense of copying their personalities, but in the sense of being a genuinely good person like they were, helping people, helping Pokémon and making people's days better by being themselves.
He smiled at the memory and at thinking of these two trainers, as watching their legendary battle on that day was one of the better days in his difficult life.
Now with the good Memories returning, he is ready to leave. He puts his arm back on the doorknob and turns it, slowly opening the door, the door was not creaking, which was of course good for him as this needed to be silent to be a successful escape. Once the Door was open wide enough, he walked through it and closed it to make sure that it can't end up suddenly slamming and ruining everything.
He took a deep breath.
"First hurdle, passed."
He whispered as he began to sneak to the next one, the stairs.
Looking at them made him nervous, as they tended to make sounds when using them, which naturally could wake up his parents. He took a deep breath as he closed his eyes to prepare himself mentally for what's about to come.
He opened his eyes back up and took the first step, which was a success.
"Only 21 left."
He whispered as he began to continue walking down the flight of stairs, counting how many more are left with every step he takes.
"10"
"9"
"8"
"7"
"6"
"5"
*CREEAAAAAAK*
The Child stood still in horror as the Stairs did what he prayed to arceus wouldn't happen when doing this. He didn't know what he should do right now.
Run? No, that would just guarantee him getting caught immediately and even hurting himself in the panic.
Hide? Maybe if there even were a good place to hide in the first place.
So he just stood still, frozen in fear, he was scared beyond relief his chance at finally being free from here probably just has been destroyed. But if that were the case, why didn't either of them appear to do what he thought they would do when this happened?Could it be that they didn't hear it? Did he have luck just this one time? He waited another ten seconds just to be sure, but still... nobody came.
He in fact was lucky, this one single time. And he cannot allow letting this luck be unwasted. Immediately, he took the last few steps needed to go down the stairs, without them creaking a second time.
And this was the biggest hurdle done with, as the entrance/exit was right in front of the stairs.
There it was, the ticket of freedom was right in front of him.
He continued on with the sneaking and reached his arm out to grab the doorknob to finally be done with this place.
Just..
a few..
more..
sneaky..
steps.
His hand finally reached the doorknob, Shaking.
His hand was shaking as it touched the Doorknob, this was it, the moment of truth. He turned the Doorknob to open the door.
Air filled the room, from outside, It's so close...
He didn't waste any more time and opened it fully, taking his first steps outside as he then closed the door behind him. It was amazing, Pallet Town at this time was beautiful to look at. He never managed ti see this beauty as he for obvious reasons hasn't allowed to be outside this late, but now he got to finally look at it.
He could look at this forever...
But he shouldn't, as while he left this house, he still was far, far away from being safe.
He's literally still outside this house, after all.
And so, he began to run, running to find a place where he can finally be safe, while he doesn't know where he can find this place yet, he knows where his first stop will be, that being:
Virdian City.
