"Hey Mitsuba, why did that siren sing about me? Is there something you wanna tell me?"

Summary:

Mitsukou fic set in the nightlife arc (no major spoilers for it) where a siren tries to drown Mitsuba by singing about Kou and Mitsuba tries to deny it

Notes:

This is my first work and I'm a teen so be warned
Also it starts a little slow but again I'm a mentally ill teen and so is the rest of the fanbase so you'll willingly read this
Also this was two chapters but they were both tiny so I shoved them together

Work Text:

Kou had just gotten home from another day at Kamome academy. It was the usual, helping Yashiro clean bathrooms, wondering why she's so careful around water, pondering if his brother was right about his weakness as an exorcist, thinking about Mitsuba, hoping Mitsuba's okay and thinking about Mitsuba. He was cooking dinner with his older brother, Teru. As always, his 'help' in the kitchen didn't help at all. How does Teru manage to mess up cooking this badly?! It's so bad that everyone can only eat what Kou makes. He's used shredded coconut instead of cheese when making a cheese omelette, forgotten to put an egg in a one egg cake and used crushed up crackers as a flour substitute because AI said it'd be fine. He's good at everything else he just can't cook. A thought pops into Kou's mind; "What if my exorcisms are just as bad to him?" It makes sense, Teru has always been talented. He often gets annoyed when Kou tries to exorcise a spirit. As Teru is placing a mokke-themed plate to dry, he turns to his younger brother and says "Look. Kou. I don't think you're cut out to be an exorcist." As he dries another plate that Kou passed him he continues by saying "think about it. Mr. Tsuchigomori, Number Seven, that pink-haired guy. If I told you to exorcise them you wouldn't be able to. You're too weak." Kou freezes for a second. He's always thought this but hearing Teru say it was different. It was much, much worse. He felt like something broke in him, or maybe someone just dropped a plate. Nope. Not a plate. Just Kou's soul. Teru looks at him for a moment, saying those words hurt him too but it's the truth. He'd never admit it but he's actually a bit envious of Kou, he's kind, too kind for killing spirits. He didn't have to waste his childhood being a prodigy like Tiara will. No kid should have to wish they were born into a normal family; or born normal at all. While the brothers were thinking about what to say next, lighting spreads throughout the house. A spirit is here. The older Minamoto, wanting to cheer up his brother and realising it's a low-level spirit decides to let his little brother deal with it. Of course, Kou's face lit up at the opportunity. He rushed out the kitchen ready to prove his powers to Teru. He excitedly opens the door to see......Mitsuba????

Mitsuba!" he yells as he ran towards the pink-haired ghost. Kou thought he'd never see him again after everything that's happened. "You're okay!!" he exclaims, somehow even more excited than he was a second ago. Mitsuba nutters something about not being okay at all before brushing it off by grabbing the young exorcist's hand and asking if he had any plans for tonight. "I want to go somewhere I haven't been before! Where do you wanna go?" Kou thinks for a moment before suggesting the beach. "The beach? It's empty at night, the waves are cool and we can build sand castles!"

Mitsuba had always wanted to go to the beach with a friend so they started walking to the closest one. As they arrived, Mitsuba heard something - a soft voice singing promises of being human. Being human with Kou. Mitsuba couldn't resist so he ran towards the ocean, leaving Kou (who was distracted by the waves) by himself. As Mitsuba got closer the singing sounded even more beautiful. Right as Mitsuba was about to jump in Kou turned around and saw what was happening. "Mitsuba!" He yelled while sprinting towards the ocean. "It's a trap! That's a supernatural!" Kou had heard about sirens before from Teru a while ago. They try to lore sailors with whatever they want the most. Kou tried to listen to the siren for a moment. It was singing about him?! But Mitsuba always insults his earring and his friends. There's no way someone as cute as Mitsuba would like Kou. And he's a ghost! Exorcists can't be with ghosts! Kou was told to take out the spirit as in kill it, not on a date. Now he's running into the ocean to save a guy who swears he hates him. The pink-haired ghost notices the exorcist and runs out of the water towards him, being careful not to look like a mess covered in a mix of ocean water and tears. "I was just trying to swim then this THING tried to drown me. Do I look like I wanna die again??" Kou lets out a small smile at the ghost's remark before asking the question on everyone's minds - "Hey Mitsuba, why did that siren sing about me? Is there something you wanna tell me?" As soon as he heard this the ghost's face went nearly has pink as his hair as he tried to deny his love for Kou. "You?! Why would I love you?! Was there a crash in your brain? Is that why you wear that earring?" he yelled but Kou just found it adorable. The way he dresses, the way he acts when he's being defensive, his smile. God his smile. While Kou was busy admiring, Mitsuba was still yelling. His face somehow even pinker. "Even if I was into you, WHICH I'M NOT, why would a spirit out me like that?! Is the sea homophobic now?!" this makes the exorcist burst out laughing. "Homophobic spirits?! Makes sense why they attacked us then." Mitsuba, realising this isn't working, finally gives up and admits he indeed likes Kou. I guess that siren was homophobic. We should twitter cancel it.
