Work Text:
Percy had known for some time that 'boy' didn't sit right. 'Boy', no that wasn't Percy thank you very much. But finding the words to explain it, and then actually going ahead and explaining it to the people that meant the most, that had been much more difficult.
Sally knew, Percy wasn't sure there was anything that could be kept from her. It was Annabeth that didn't know, and she had to know before everyone else. It wouldn't be right if Annabeth found out through someone else. There wasn't exactly a manual on how to do it though, how to come out. Or, if there was, Percy hadn't found it.
There were probably better ways to do it, Percy supposed, but this way suited them. They were in Percy's cabin, Annabeth sat on the floor with her laptop in front of her working away, as Percy laid back in the bunk bed. It wasn't uncommon for them to ask the silly questions.
"Would you still love me," Percy started, "if I had fins?" Annabeth laughed slightly, and glanced up from the laptop.
"Yes Perce, I'd still love you if you had fins," she said. She hummed then, coming up with her own. It was how they did it, and really it could be fun. Sometimes they did it with friends around, much to their amusement. "Would you still love me if I had feathers?" Percy hummed slightly, before nodding.
"Yeah, I'd still love you if you had feathers. I'd learn how to take care of them for you too," Percy said, smiling at her. "Would you still love me if I was blonde?" Annabeth laughed again.
"Now that might be a deal breaker," she joked. "Two blondes in one relationship?" Percy laughed slightly. "Yes seaweed brain I'd still love you if you were blonde."
"Oh thank gods," Percy said, still laughing slightly.
"Would you still love me if I wasn't blonde?" Annabeth asked.
"Be original wise girl, but yes I'd still love you if you weren't blonde. Would you still love me if I had actual seaweed for brains?" Percy asked. Annabeth raised an eyebrow, and shook her head.
"You're ridiculous!" she said. Percy pouted at her. "Yes," she said, sighing. "I'd still love you if you had actual seaweed for brains. Would you still love me if I wasn't a demigod?"
"How would we have met?" Percy asked. Annabeth raised her eyebrow again, and Percy laughed. "But yes, despite the impossibility of us knowing each other if one of us wasn't a demigod, I'd still love you if you were an ordinary mortal."
"We'd find a way," Annabeth said. "I'm certain we're meant to be."
"Yeah," Percy agreed, smiling softly at her. "Annie?"
"Yes seaweed brain?" she asked.
"Would you still love me if I wasn't a boy?" Percy asked. Annabeth paused for a moment, not moving at all as she assessed the question.
"Perce, is this something you want to talk about? Properly?" Annabeth asked. Percy nodded at her, slowly, even as tears threatened to form and spill onto the pillow. "I love you no matter what," Annabeth added.
"Yeah?" Percy asked.
"Yes," Annabeth said firmly. She shifted closer to the bed and took Percy's hand in her own. "Whether that's with you as my boyfriend, or as my girlfriend, or as my partner, I love you. And I'm not going anywhere."
"Your girlfriend," Percy said.
"My girlfriend then, and it's staying that way," she said. Percy nodded, and smiled at her.
"I'm still Percy, I like being Percy, I'm just," she trailed off.
"You're just Percy in a girl way," Annabeth said. Percy nodded.
"That's ok right?" Percy asked.
"Of course it's ok Percy," she said, leaning up to kiss her cheek. "And it won't change how things are between us, everything will be the same. I'll just introduce you as my girlfriend instead."
"Thank you," Percy muttered. Annabeth shook her head, there wasn't anything to thank her for.
