Work Text:
“Have you ever been so tired you couldn’t even read?”
Es stopped in the middle of the page she was reading. She disliked stopping in the middle of a page, but that small discomfort was worth it for her dear wanderer.
”I can’t say I’ve encountered such a predicament. I’ve grown tired of reading, but never too tired to read.”
To tell the truth, she could scarcely imagine being so tired that even reading takes too much energy. She didn’t say that, however. She was well aware of how fatigue affected her dear wanderer.
“I… it’s infuriating. Not only having no energy to work, but having no energy for things that bring you pleasure, or relaxation. It feels like the only thing I’ve the power to do right now is lay here with you.”
”well… I enjoy being with you.”
”as do I. It’s much more pleasant than when I would lay by myself. Your presence alone makes things much better, but I still… I still just wish I wasn’t so tired. I wish I had the power to do whatever I wished. But instead, I’m here, trapped inside my own skin, trapped by my own lack of strength.”
”…would you like me to read to you again?”
Her wanderer seemed surprised at the offer. She needn’t be. Es would do anything for her, anything in her power.
”I… I’d like that. Thank you.”
Es picked out one of her dear’s favorite books in their library. She knew she always enjoyed books of love between two girls, and this one in particular had endeared itself to both their hearts. She began reading.
