Work Text:

Zayne sat on the couch as he watched their daughters Zahra and Sage play a board game they got for their 7th birthday, a sad smile on his face. He couldn't believe it's been 7 years since Sylvia passed away due to complications during birth.

It was hard, as two days after Sylvia's passing, he could barely look at the girls as all he was reminded of was Sylvia. But he knew he needed to pull his shit together as the girls needed and deserved to have a loving father figure in their life.

Life as a single father wasn't easy, especially with twins. There were moments where he wondered if he was cut out for this or not, but then every time he'd look at their daughters being happy, laughing or giggling, he would remember why every struggle, every sleepless night was worth it to see them happy.
But he couldn't deny that sometimes he wished Sylvia was here, he missed her, and life seemed harder without her here, without her smile, her jokes, when she'd sing even though she was horrible at it, when she would message him the most random stuff while he was at work.

"Girls, come on, go get dressed so we can visit mom."
The girls nodded before getting up and going to their room, when they came downstairs, Zayne tied Zahra's hair into a ponytail while sages into pigtails.

On the drive there, the girls were singing along to some song that popped up on the car's radio.
"papa?"
"yes, sage?"
"are we going to get flowers for Mama?"
"of course."
"papa..can we also get a plushie for Mama?"
"Sure, why not."
"yay!"
Zayne chuckled at Sage and Zahra's excitement  'Yay!', he hoped that maybe in heaven Sylvia was watching over them.

When they arrived at the cemetery, the girls immediately went to where their mother's gravestone was with Zayne following behind them.

At the gravestone, the girls put the flowers and plushies down, and they talked about their week and how they even went to the Waterpark on a school trip!, as they talked, Zayne watched, wiping away the tears that rolled down his cheeks.

Oh, how he wished he could see her again, but he knew there were still many years before that happened, and till then he needed to be there for their daughters.
