Chapter 1: 3 Rules Of Prom!

Chapter Text

Dib opened the door with a frown drawn on his face. With Gaz bailing out prom he is literally all on his own. Glad she mentioned that the prom takes place inside the gym.

He immediately got blasted with loud music that colored the entire gym. Dib looked around, there are a couple of guys at the corner of the gym probably making out or something, there is a green-looking thing with pink, reddish cunning eyes and sharp teeth looking confused and bored, then there are some guys making a conversation near the fruit punch table, one of the guy is suddenly pouring something inside the tumbler he bought earlier—

green looking thing… ?

’’Zim… Is that you?’’ D ib looked back towards the gym bench which he saw him, Zim blinked and looked at him confusingly. ’’What are YOU doing here i thought you hated proms?’’ Dib sat beside Zim, playing the cup filled with ‘fruit punch’ resting in his hand.

’’Well, I DO hate following these stupid and useless human events. However, I’m here because I am doing research about this hooman activity called ‘prom’. I’m quite fascinated about this thing called ‘romance’.I’ve watched a couple of shows with romance as its genre before I went here and It’s odd. So i am here to– Hey, why are YOU here? Last time i checked, you hated prom too and i don’t think someone like you will bring any partner to share this experience here either.’’

Zim fix his weird colored bowtie then came a somewhat uncanny thing who’s running towards him with curly blonde hair (kind of looks like a wig that’s on the brink on falling) and red surrounding it’s small body to contrast the blue suit in Zim then jumped at Dib while screaming something loud and preachy, teal eyes and all.

’’Gir… seriously Zim? You actually choose him to be your partner here.’’ Dib stretched his arms, grabbing Gir on the waist to avoid any more physical contact with him (tbh his stomach hurts a lot rn because of him)

“Ahem—’’ Zim coughed. ’’It’s Her now. Gir’s my Girlfriend now.’’ Zim patted his left thigh so Gir could sleep on his lap? “Weird. But sure whatever.” Dib shrugged and sipped his cup, better drink it than waste ‘em he thought. There’s a weird tingly sensation there… Huh.

“Now answer the question.” “What question?’’ Zim looked at him with ‘the look’ when he’s probably looking clueless as fuck. “Why are you here? You didn’t answer that.”

Dib widened his eyes, finally realizing why the hell Zim was staring at him like that. Stupid. “Oh yeah, my Dad forced me here. And what other perfect time to do prom if no other than when I'm supposed to find Bigfoot… again. Bummer.”

Dib fold both of hands, resting his body on the bench behind him while he took another sip of the fruit punch he got. Dib’s not sure that this is a fruit punch based on the taste, but whatever he’s feeling a bit blue at the moment, so whatever will do. Then he drank every last bit of it. Noice.

There were a couple minutes of silence between them, there seems to be a a lot more students coming here than before. The same as Dib’s dizziness and nausea, he wondered what caused it. Maybe have a small talk with Zim would help? But about what…

“Hey, while we’re at it. Why don’t I teach you a couple things about prom?” Dib leaned his head towards Zim with a grin fixed on his face.

“But you’ve never even experienced or even known a single thing about prom.” Zim fixed his gaze to the boy beside him, a look of confusion and worry painted on his face.

“And that’s why you need me to be your prom guide. You know there’s no such thing as a prom expert too when there’s only two proms in your whole life.” Stumbling with his words Dib spread out his hands real wide grinning.

“Oh yeah, good point Dib. Now Zim demands you to show me this. Prom. Immediately.” Zim clenched his fist and looked at Dib with confidence. He’s sure Dib will fail to explain the details about prom, but at least he’ll explain the basics.

“Okay, so the first most obvious rule of prom is to bring your partner.” “check, Gir, initiate romantic partner mode!” Gir immediately stood up from her place. “Okay boss!” Zim saluted before her voice changed to a more feminine voice midway. Then immediately cuddled Zim with affection.

“Okay, second rule….” then Dib proceeds to stare blankly at something? Zim waved his hand at him only for him to respond with a hiccup. “Dib. What did you drink earlier?” Zim reached Dib’s hand while the other touched his soft cheek so he’ll face Zim.

“whuh…?” Dib leaned his head to where Zim landed his hand to, still staring blankly but now to him. It’s a really odd feeling that made Zim shiver a bit.

“Oh yeah,um sorry about that. Just a bit dizzy suddenly that’s all. Anyway second rule it’s that you don’t forget to—” Dib continued, leaning his face a bit farther before Zim’s hands caught his cheek again.

“You didn’t answer me Dib. What did you drink?
“ His claws dig inside his cheek, red started dripping, and both parties drifted away from each other.

“Ugh, that hurt like hell you know.” Dib touched his cheek and winced then followed with another hiccup. “You know I didn't mean to do that.” Zim tried to reach out to him but Dib only slide farther away from his reach. He can hear Gir’s loud gasp beside him.

“Yeah right, like i’ll believe someone like you.” Dib looked away while rubbing his pained cheek softly behind him. Zim sighed. “Alright Dib, what’s the second rule?” Zim’s eyes laid back on the person beside him, who’s leaning his gaze back at him surprised.

“You really want to listen…to me?” Dib leaned his back a little, droopy eyelids locked on him and both of his hands are now resting on his lap. “Yes, now tell Zim the second rule, Dib.”

“Alright, the second rule is to make a dinner reservation for your partner–” Dib hiccups. “--whether it’s inside a reeaaally fancy restaurant or just a smelly old fast fast food would work the charm to impress your partner. You don’t want them bailing out on you know, do you?” Dib grabbed Zim’s thighs and leaned closer to him. Making Zim surprised with his sudden movement, he can smell alcohol coming from Dib’s mouth who hiccuped. So his suspicion is true.

“Okay then what’s the last one? Let’s make this one quick.” Even though Dib’s his nemesis, he needs to get him somewhere quite. If he’s drunk, he needs make sure Dib would not make any embarrassing things that’ll affect both him and Dib. Maybe his headquarters will do.

“Well if you’re that eager to know i’ll tell you. It’s not like I have any control in what I do in life.” There’s sadness reflecting in Dib’s eyes which made Zim pity him.

“The last rule to every prom is—” Dib stopped and realizes that the song that played in the background has turn into those slow romantic dances, he smiled.

“Why say it if i could just show you.” Dib pulled Zim’s hand and make way to the dance floor. Zim tried to pull away but Dib was forcefully dragged into the middle of the room. how--

“Now put your hand riiiight here.” Dib guided Zim’s right hand to his waist. “and the other here.” And Dib put his left hand with his. His sober eyes looked at him so calmly, like this is the only thing he’d ever want to do in his entire life.

“Dib…how’d you know all of this?” Zim raised his brows and stared at Dib in confusion and amazement for the boy, he wondered what more secret he held. It made him flustered.

Dib hiccuped. “I have my ways.” Both of them chuckled as both of they danced to the rhythm. Not even Gir who is chucking a loadful of Dib’s hair can disturb them.

Zim looked intently at Dib, everything about him interested him from the beginning they met. From his determination and confidence of catching him someday, that cowlick of his that he still kept all these years so he could stand out (his words). And his brown pupils that seem to hipnotize him every time he stares at them, the pimples that slowly appear and disappear on his face, mostly his forehead, and his almost cracked lenses. Huh, is that because of their latest fight? Maybe he should give him a replacement. A glasses that no other human but Dib have it, that’s irreplaceable and not easily broken like him. Yes, that’ll do just fine.

Slowly Zim realizes that Dib’s movement became more and more slow and sluggish, his eyes became more droopy. “Dib, are you–” Before he could finish his sentence, Dib’s eyes closed and his body slowly fell backwards. Zim caught him before his head got smashed on the fall. After checking that he is still indeed breathing, he put Dib on the ground and dragged him outside the Skool.
