“Hyoma.” Rensuke quickly wrote down his name on the cup. It’s a pretty name, He thought although he was too nervous to say anything aloud. The red haired boy walked off to find a place to sit as Rensuke went to make his drink.

Chapter 1: A New Customer

Chapter Text

Rensuke had been working at ‘brew lock’ for  quite a while now, and he was feeling pretty confident about the job. He knew pretty much all the regulars by now, knew most of the popular drinks by memory, he was doing pretty good. Rensuke was standing idle at the register like any other day when he came in. The boy that made his heart stop. he waltzed gracefully into the shop as he looked around the building with grace. His hair was long and silky, perfectly draping over his shoulders. If he had seen him from the back he might have confused him for a woman if it weren’t for his stoically handsome face. Rensuke stood there in awe at the customer’s beauty.

“Hi, can I get a medium mocha for here?” The man’s words shocked Rensuke out of his trans.

“Oh yeah! Sorry. What’s a name I can put it under?” Rensuke frantically fumbled to grab a cup for the order trying to ignore his internal bisexual panic.

“Hyouma.” Rensuke quickly wrote down his name on the cup. It’s a pretty name , He thought although he was too nervous to say anything aloud. The red haired boy walked off to find a place to sit as Rensuke went to make his drink.

As he brewed the cup, he couldn’t help but glance up at the customer. How it was possible to be so elegant and perfect looking just doing nothing? He poured the mocha into a cup and walked over to the booth that Hyouma was sitting in. “Uh- mocha for Hyouma?” The customer looked up from his phone and took the cup before briefly glancing Rensuke up and down.

“Thanks.” Rensuke now felt very aware of himself. He stood stiffly and nodded in an almost military fashion and backed away from the table timidly.

“Of course! Uhm- let me know if you need anything else!” The barista scurries away to the counter and frantically cleans the equipment to distract himself from his awkward interaction. That was stupid I’m so stupid why did I act like that. He cursed himself under his breath as his face went red with embarrassment.

As Hyouma sipped his coffee he couldn’t help but smile as he thought of that stupidly buff ginger barista. He glanced over at him behind the counter between sips, observing him intently. He looks kinda stupid. Like some football bloke. As much as much as those judgy thoughts floated through his mind, his eyes still lingered on Rensuke.
Before he knew it the mocha was gone. It was so delicious he drank it way faster than expected. He stared at the cup, disappointed the drink was gone already. He sighed and tucked his hair behind his ear before getting up from his spot when he heard the barista’s voice. “Have a good day! Come by again.” Hyouma turned to him and smiled.

“I will, thanks. It was delicious.” He waved goodbye as he walked out of the shop, tossing his scarf around his neck to bear the cold. He already couldn’t wait to go to that coffee shop again.

———

Exactly a week passed before Hyouma came back to brew lock. Rensuke was wiping down the counter when he heard the bell of the door. “Oh welcome back!” Hyouma perked up when hearing the greeting and smiled.

“Thanks! I’m so excited I’ve been thinking about your mocha all week.” Hyouma practically salivated at the mere thought of that delicious drink he had a week prior. Rensuke laughed at the customers words and began preparing another cup.

“I’m guessing you want the same order then?” Hyouma nods slightly before the case of pastries and sweets catches his eye and stops him in his tracks.

“Which of these do you recommend?” Rensuke looks up from the cup at Hyouma. Damn he’s pretty.

“Oh, me?” Hyouma looks up at him and nods. Damn he’s hot.

“Yes, you. What do you like from here?” Rensuke sheepishly rubs the back of his neck, unsure what to say.

“Uhh, I haven’t tried everything here.. but my sisters say they love the scones!” As Rensuke speaks, Hyouma can’t help but stare at his extremely built arms. Stop it Hyouma, don’t be weird. He snaps himself out of his thoughts to examine the scones.

“I’ll take a strawberry one too then.” Hyouma pays and heads to the same spot as he sat last week, taking out a book from his tote bag to pass the time. Once Rensuke finishes making the drink, he carries it over to the customer.

“A medium mocha and a strawberry scone?” Hyouma immediately looked up from his book, so zoned out he was caught off guard by the barista.

“Oh! Thank you.” As he closes his book and sets it to the side, Rensuke notices the title. “Oh hey! I love that book!” Hyouma glanced at the book and smiled softly as his cheeks went red.

“O-oh, yeah, it’s pretty good..” If Hyouma was being honest this book really wasn’t all that, even though it was a novel, it felt like he was reading some basic shonen jump manga. “Do you read a lot?” Hyouma said, hoping Rensuke wouldn’t call his bluff. The barista sheepishly rubbed his neck and shook his head.

“Nah, not really. I’m more into sports and stuff.” Figures. Hyouma thinks as his eyes can’t help but wander to Rensuke’s physique. Hyouma’s lack of response grew an awkward silence between them. “S-so, uh- you read a lot then?” The barista’s voice shocks Hyouma from his gay thoughts back to the conversation at hand. Oh no he probably thinks I’m some perv, staring at him like a weirdo.

“Oh- yeah. I read..”

“Hey Kuni! Get back to work!” Another barista yells from behind the counter.

“Yeah, yeah Raichi. Whatever I’m coming.” Rensuke yells over his shoulder. “Sorry for disturbing you, enjoy your scone.” He smiles at the customer before rushing back to behind the counter. Hyouma smiles to himself, his face flushed thinking about that dumb barista. He turns toward his food and drink and takes a bite of his scone. Holy fuck this is amazing.

———

“So who was that?” A coworker asks Rensuke, nudging his side playfully as they clean.

“Oh shut up Raichi, he was just a customer. He came in last week.” He responds, though his face goes warm at the thought of that read head.

“Mhm. Like how Isagi said that Bachira was just a customer?” He was enjoying this way too much.

“Oh you think you’re so funny. Fine, I think he’s cute. But I wasn’t hitting on him.”

“Suuure man, whatever you say~” Rensuke rolls his eyes and retreats to the kitchen, not having the energy to deal with Raichi’s bullshit.

When Rensuke closed for the night, he found himself already thinking of when he would see Hyouma again.
