Hawkkit needs therapy... :(

Summary:

Houndhead didn't want kits and unfortunately he's stuck with little Hawkkit who doesn't understand why his dad won't properly care for him. Dandelionclaw, Hawkkit's mother, feels similarly but puts her anger out on him physically as well.

Work Text:

A golden tabby glared down at her kit, who nipped and clawed at her tail. She bared her teeth. "Why don't you go say hi to your dad, Hawkkit?" She hissed through grit teeth.

Hawkkit stopped his playful biting and looked at her. "Why ?"

She stared at him. "He's your dad." She almost snarled the words. "He wants to see you. Go, now."

The brown tabby kit sat up silent for a moment. He didn't wanna get in trouble with her again, sometimes she would claw at him when she was upset and he hated that.

"Okay mama!" He mewed at last. He didn't want to get nasty smelling herbs on any wounds again.

He padded out in stride, his small legs struggling to balance him and his belly hanging low below.

He looked around slowly, trying to take in his environment. The sandy ground and thorny camp walls were something unusual to him. He rarely was let out of the nursery, especially not alone.

None of the cats in the clearing looked like his dad. He tried to remember back to his other trips, which of these huge dens belonged to the leader? Maybe he could find him there.

He sat looking carefully at every den, trying to picture which one he last saw his dad at.

He curled his tail and ran to the side towards an extra large looking den. He remembered his dad being in the biggest den that had a bunch of moss on the ground.

He ran to the entrance of it and looked in. It was dark and it took a few moments for his eyes to adjust.

Inside he couldn't see anything, until he looked to the side and saw two very thick legs in front of him.

Looking up, he saw Kiwiheart, his kin. He wasn't as closely related as his mom and dad though.

Kiwiheart stood still, then grabbed the kits scruff, pulling him up to his height.

Hawkkit yelped. "I gotta see dad let me goooo!!"

The larger brown tabby looked at the fluffball in his mouth. "I'll bring you to your dad." The fur in his mouth muffled the words. "But you can't go into the warriors den yet."

Hawkkit's feet scrambled at the air. "I knowww, I know, I know!!! I won't anymore, just let me see him." He squealed.

At that, Kiwiheart began to pad off with the kit held tightly.

When they arrived at the leader's den a fluffy brown shape sat in the very back. Noticing Kiwiheart he turned a bit. "What do you need?" He meowed.

Kiwiheart placed down the small kit who immediately yelped. "DAAAD"

His dad seemed to turn away again and his pelt had fluffed up. He sat motionless until he muttered something that only Kiwiheart seemed to hear.

Kiwiheart grunted. "Yeah, I know." He meowed. "But he wanted to see you, Houndhead."

Houndhead turned and this time he faced Hawkkit. His tail twitching anxiously.

"Hawkkit..." He almost seemed as if he didn't recognize the kitten in front of him. "You should go back to Dandelionclaw.." He barely looked down at the little brown kit as he murmured.

Hawkkit blinked. "Mama said to come see you." He padded closer. "She doesn't wanna play right now I think. So I wanna play with you, papa."

Houndhead's ears flicked back and he shuffled his paws on the ground. Then looked to Kiwiheart pleadingly.

The much taller tom glared at him, but he walked up to the kit and whisked his tail around him.

Hawkkit tried to scramble around it and get back to his dad.

"Let me play with my dad!!! Why are you adults so mean? I don't understand-" He mewed as he was then picked up. "Papa I don't understand.."

His paws flailed trying to reach for the lighter colored tom and he continued to mew pitifully as Kiwiheart dragged him back to the nursery.
