Work Text:
Castiel had fucking gold in his hands.
Nathaniel, as distracted as he can be sometimes, let fall a piece a paper of all this paperwork he has every single day of his life as student body president –or whatever the fuck he was–. Castiel thought it was a silly meaningless thing that the principal made him do, but when he started to read he saw what it actually was;
"This love is good, this love is bad
This love is alive back from the dead
These hands had to let it go free
And this love came back to me"
He didn't read or write poetry, but by Lysander's way of songwriting, he could identify it as one.
Short, explains something sentimental and shit, and it rhymes; a Poem. A Great fucking poem that he could use for a song.
Shit, he needed his guitar now
Nathaniel was going insane
“Fuck- Where did i-”
Did someone steal it? No, why someone would've done that? What if he left on a table around the school and someone thought it was trash? or even worse, what if someone found it and thought it was good?
“Yeah, of course you're here”
“I'm not in the mood, Castiel.”
“Are you ever?” Nathaniel grunted. “Did you loose something?”
There's no way.
“Wha-” he turned around and saw it. Castiel was holding his stupid poem. “Give it back. You jerk!”
Castiel shook his head. “Nuh Uh. This shit it's not that bad. If it wasn't you who wrote it, i would say it's good, even”
Nathaniel felt his cheeks burn. “Why do you even need it for?”
“Wanna make it a song”
Nathaniel snorted “Did you come here to ask for permission?” He joked, but Castiel just stared at him “Oh you are.”
“Be fucking grateful that I'm asking you and not just steal all the credits.” It was Castiel turn to flush.
Nathaniel sighed. “Why are you even asking me? You probably already have the whole song done.”
Castiek smirked at him “You know me so well! I'm gonna be at the basement after school, be there” he said as he left the student council room.
He sighed. Lysander didn't come today. They will be alone, and that's never a good idea.
“See you, Nath!”
“See you tomorrow, Melody” He saw her walking to the big door of the school. He sighed, he couldn't go yet.
He turned around and started walking the other way, to the basement.
As closer as he got, he could hear more clearly a few guitar chords.
oh we're really doing this.
He saw Castiel sitting on the floor with a red electric guitar on his lap when he entered the room.
“Took you long enough."
he rolled his eyes “I had to do stuff. Now, Get into it.” he said annoyed.
“Whoa! Calm down, idiot. Again, be grateful that I'm showing you!”
Nathaniel sat in front of him, he sighed and started.
"Clear blue water
High tide came and brought you in
And I could go on and on, on and on, and I will.
Skies grew darker.
Currents swept you out again.
And you were just gone and gone, gone and gone.
In silent screams
In wildest dreams
I never dreamed of this."
Oh...
"This love is good.
This love is bad.
This love is alive back from the dead, oh, oh, oh.
These hands had to let it go free, and.
This love came back to me, oh, oh, oh.
Ohh
Oh, oh, oh"
Castiel sang well, like, really good. He asked himself why Lysander was the only vocalist on their band.
"Tossing, turning.
Struggled through the night with someone new.
And I could go on and on, on and on.
Lantern, burning.
Flickered in the night, only you.
But you were still gone, gone, gone.
In losing grip.
On sinking ships.
You showed up just in time."
"This love is good
This love is bad
This love is alive back from the dead, oh, oh, oh
These hands had to let it go free, and
This love came back to me, oh, oh, oh
This love left a permanent mark
This love is glowing in the dark, oh, oh, oh
These hands had to let it go free, and
This love came back to me, oh, oh, oh"
His short poem was modified on the second chorus.
Castiel's songwriting was incredible, he must say. He didn't know how long it took him to write it, but it was amazing.
The electric guitar definitely gave it's own personality, Castiel voice it's way more softer than his talking voice so it could fit on the theme.
Nathaniel wasn't thinking about anyone in particular, to be honest, he just saw a movie with his sister last night and wrote it down the moment it appeared on his brain, but he could feel that Castiel was thinking about somebody, and he knew her well.
Shit maybe that's why he liked it.
The post-chorus ended, it was a small transition to the bridge.
Jesus, the bridge.
"Your kiss, my cheek
I watched you leave
Your smile, my ghost
I fell to my knees
When you're young, you just run
But you come back to what you need"
Deborah really left him hurt, huh?
He sighed and listen to the chorus and outro.
Castiel looked so calmed and, fuck, so pretty. He knew this was a bad idea.
Silence.
“So.. um.. What do you think”
Nathaniel smiled “It's not bad. If it wasn't you who did it I'd say it's good.”
Castiel laughed
“I'll take that as a compliment.”
Because it is.
Nathaniel changed his position and sat next to him
“You have a pretty voice, Castiel. Should use it more.”
Castiel flushed “Ah.. Thank you, i guess, but the kind of genre we do with Lysander definitely needs a stronger one, that's why he sings..”
Nathaniel sighed “I'm pretty sure that isn't the reason”
“Shut up”
they stared at each other, and everything felt nice for a second.
“Need a cigarette”
Nathaniel rolled his eyes “Can you stop smoking on here? The principal always ends up finding your shit and I'm the one to blame!”
“Yada Yada”
