Work Text:

Word quickly got out about the coffee shop date between Kokichi and Miwa among the Kyoto students. As for Kokichi himself, he was debating on what to do for White Day. As a result, he spent the next couple of weeks researching advice. Apparently this was a day when guys were supposed to 'pay back' the women who gave them chocolates on Valentine's Day. So how was he supposed to pay back Miwa's honey-filled love chocolates? And what about Mai and Nishimiya? Did he have to give them gifts as well? With those thoughts in mind, he went to the one guy who could probably given him answers.

"I see," Noritoshi remarked. "So you wish to take part in White Day for Miwa."

"I never took part in those festivities," Kokichi explained. "While I want to do something special for her, I'm not sure if I should do the same for Zenin and Nishimiya."

"You could if you want to," Noritoshi said. "Whenever I receive chocolates, I usually hand out white flowers as a small token of appreciation."

"And Todo?" Kokichi asked.

"He tends to go overboard with his gifts, regardless of what kinds of chocolates he receives," Noritoshi recalled. "What matters is the amount of care that goes into gifts."

Ever since that conversation, Kokichi was hard at work planning out his White Day gifts. He did his research for what was usually common to hand out, noticing that it was usually white-colored gifts. But what was the difference between responding to friendship chocolate and love chocolate? That was what he wanted to figure out.

But then, there was a particular website that actually described what each gift usually represented. And after scrolling through that website, Kokichi was able to figure out what to do.

When White Day finally came, it was time for another group gift exchange. Everyone met up at the school's dining area, but this time the guys were the ones who had gifts. Like Noritoshi said some time ago, he handed out a single white flower to each of the girls, revealing that the flowers in question were actually irises. As for Todo, he whipped out elaborate candy displays shaped like hearts, confirming Noritoshi's words that he usually went overboard with his gifts. Luckily Arata wasn't as bombastic, since his gifts were small sweets.

So what did Kokichi plan on giving out? Well according to the website he came across, he ultimate decided on two store-bought cookies, since apparently that was meant to represent friendship. And luckily enough, the cookies he bought were decorated with white chocolate, so it fit the white-colored criteria. Yet while Nishimiya happily took a bite of the cookie, Mai was less than pleased.

"Really?" the gunswoman asked. "A cookie? That was your best idea?" She opened the wrapped and inspected the cookie inside. "'Least you didn't give me something cheap."

Then there was Miwa. She was eagerly awaiting her gift. But much like what she did on Valentine's Day, Kokichi gave her an envelope. But what was inside the envelope? It was a simple card he wrote, inviting the blue-haired angel on a cherry blossom stroll at Togetsu-kyo Bridge. The real gift came during the stroll, something he crafted by hand using store-bought supplies he picked up a few days ago. But for now, he was glad when Miwa accepted the envelope and did not open it during the gift exchange. After all, she told him to open her envelope publicly, so she naturally assumed it was the same for his gift.

So with the silent gesture indicated, it was time to prepare.

Once the students parted ways, Kokichi headed back to his dorm room to get dressed. Aside from the crafting supplies, he also purchased nicer clothing for the date, consisting of a white long-sleeved button-up shirt, black slacks, and black dress shoes. He had opted to borrow some makeup from Mai to hide his cheek scar, but he ultimately decided not to after recalling how Miwa still called him handsome even with that imperfection.

When it got closer to noon, Kokichi headed for the school's entrance. And much like before, she was waiting for him. This time she was wearing a casual navy blue shirt, white jeans, and silver flats. It wasn't as fancy as her Valentine's Day outfit, but she still look cute.

"So what did you have in mind for this stroll?" Miwa asked in an oh-so cute voice.

Kokichi smirked slightly. "You just have to wait and see," he teased.

And so, the two headed over to Togetsu-kyo Bridge. It ended up being a very simple date. The two walking alongside the bridge as they admired the scenery. Yet soon it became apparent that Kokichi had other things in mind. But he didn't want to spoil the surprise this soon. He simply kept quiet as Miwa leaned closer to him, intertwining their fingers together.

Too bad the former puppet-controlling recluse was still sensitive to certain things.

This was the first time the two had ever hold hands. Yet to Kokichi's amazement, it was a perfect fit. He still blushed from experiencing actual physical contact, while also taking note on how Miwa's hand felt. It wasn't as smooth as he initially thought, something he didn't notice on the night the two officially hooked up when she was touching him. There were small callouses on her palms and fingers, presumably from gripping her katanas during combat. That didn't really cause discomfort. He loved how strong she was when taking down cursed spirits, never backing down as she sliced down her enemies with quick precision.

Yet during this time, Kokichi failed to realize the two had almost set foot off the bridge. He stopped without warning, prompting Miwa to do the same. "What's wrong?" she asked as she turned to face him.

"Nothing," Kokichi corrected. "I nearly missed the timing."

"For what?" Miwa wondered.

Kokichi reached into his pants pocket. "For this," he revealed. And much like what Miwa did on Valentine's Day, he revealed his gift. "Happy White Day."

Miwa gasped in awe. Kokichi just revealed an adorable jewelry charm. There was a purple ribbon strap tied to a small, thick rope that had a bronze flower dangling on the end. He gingerly placed the charm in her hands, yet she was still amazed. This was the small craft he worked so hard on, something he knew she would use on a daily basis.

"It's an accessory for your katana holder," Kokichi explained. "I thought you could use something special to personalize it."

Miwa beamed as she held the charm close to her. "Thank you so much, Kokichi!" she squealed.

Suddenly, Kokichi felt soft plushness on his lips as Miwa embraced him. It was a quick kiss, but it still overwhelmed him. And her own bright smile made him smile as well. It seemed this White Day was a success, even if this gift was just the start of his big date plans. There was still a local cherry blossom festival to attend. But for this moment, he was content with this warm and fuzzy feeling.

Yes, Kokichi Muta has come a long way since he obtained this health body. But as weeks passed, his appearance and demeanor gradually changed. He was fully integrated into society thanks to Miwa's help. This White Day date was his way of expressing gratitude towards her kindness. But that wasn't it. He had many more dates planned for the future, all while experiencing the world around him.

And you know what? He looked forward to seeing what else this same world had in store for him.
