Work Text:
Arley, senior apprentice magus, wilted under the resentful glares of the other apprentices. “I just wanted to make sure the paddle would be close at hand when I needed it, Master.”
The Master Sorcerer examined the enchanting spell. Flight, yes, and to come when summoned, but there was more.
“We can’t concentrate with that thing around!” an apprentice protested.
“Too much intentionality,” the Master proclaimed. “It’s looking for reasons to be useful.”
The paddle floated malevolently in the air, as if supervising.
Arley hung their head. “I see now, Master.”
The sorcerer gestured, and the paddle set itself to work.
