3. Mia and Julian
Mia headed off over the field as the guests kept on arriving. She knew Kitty would be somewhere watching the Bride and the bridesmaids getting ready but she was more interested in what the guests were doing. She rushed over to where Julian was looking out over the field.
"What are you doing?"
"Oh." He turned at the sound of her voice. "Hello Little One."
"You always call me that. I am getting quite tall now. My Gran said that I am as tall as Daddy was when he was eight."
"I don't doubt it." He smiled slightly. He had never liked babies or children when he had been alive but meeting Mike's baby niece almost a decade earlier had changed all that. Once Mia had been born he had found he quite enjoyed being around for the little girl's milestones. He deeply regretted missing out on his own daughter's life - even before he had died.
"The guests are arriving."
"So I see."
"Are you watching the pretty ladies?"
"What if I am?"
Mia giggled. "Lady Button says you are terrible and it is not gentlemanly to watch pretty girls."
"She is right." Julian stated firmly. "I am making sure no one else is behaving inappropriately." He smirked. "Times have changed."
"Mum says that."
"Your Mum is always right." He paused. "Annoyingly so."
"You need her if you are going to watch your videos. Who watches videos and DVDS now? Everything is online. You can watch everything on there."
"Not everything." He paused. "Can you?"
"You do know what streaming is? Disney+, Netflix, Apple, Prime."
"Are all adjectives. Yes."
Mia rolled her eyes dramatically as she let her curls fall in her face. "Juuuuulian! They are streaming services. You can watch movies and listen to music and watch television on there."
"Without a cassette or disc thing?"
"YES."
"Maybe more interesting than this wedding."
"Probably." Mia smiled. "You want to watch Netflix?"
"Yes, yes I think I do. Lead the way Little One." She giggled before skipping back towards the house. He shook his head as he made to follow her, loving how carefree the child was. He glanced over to where two wedding guests were getting out of a car both dressed to the nines and looking like they would rather be anywhere else. He smirked, wondering what they would make of a former MP with no trousers watching a streaming programme while they had to sit through vows. Chuckling to himself he headed towards the house as Robin appeared. Once again he was so glad that Alison and her family had fallen into their lives. Mia had been the tonic they had all needed.
