Chapter Text

“Yo Xe”
Sitting next to Xeno on a bench he was reading at during his free period, Stanley skipped from his 2nd class of the day. Being a senior, and most students had already gotten accepted into college, it was hard to see a reason to go to class, so did most other students loitering in the halls, and some just not coming to school.

“Good Morning, Stanley,” Xeno said without looking up from the scientific magazine.
“So are we going to prom together?” Stanley said confidently to Xeno and was greeted with only a glance away from the magazine.
“And why do you suddenly want to go to prom? I remember how you fervently proclaimed how you didn’t want to go for 3 years”.

Stanley curses his old self; he only wanted to go if they could go as a couple. Stanley caresses Xeno’s arm, and Xeno closes the magazine and looks at Stanley.

“Won't it just be boring, we both know I don’t care about my classmates, and we’ll just end up talking to each other like every other day”Xeno replied simply.

Stanley knew he would have to convince Xeno if he wanted to go and had prepared his responses accordingly.

“Xe we can’t determine if prom is boring unless we observe it is like a Schrodinger's cat situation” Xeno slightly smiled.

Stanley knows Xeno enough to know he already agrees, which was a tad disappointing since he spent quite some time finding ways of putting science in this discussion, none the less he just had to seal the deal.

“If we go you finally have an opportunity to wear that suit” The suit Stanley was referring to was a vintage suit from a boutique a bit outside of town that Xeno made him drive back home to get his money to buy that day, it’s one of the few things he heard Xeno call“ Elegant” that wasn't science.

“We might as well. This is the last time we will have an opportunity, which means you’ll need to get a suit too,” Xeno replied.

Stanley shook his head “I have a suit I wore last year”.

“That was a funeral suit, you can’t accompany me to prom in that, besides, it won’t fit you anymore”.

Stanley grabbed Xeno’s hand, held it on his biceps and flexed, “You're so right Xe it would never fit these” Xeno tried to move his hand but Stanley wanted to mess with him some more until Mr. Tucker decided to talk to them.

“Stanley I'm fairly certain you have a class to be at right now” Stanley let go of Xeno's hand and got up.

Don't get it wrong Stanley usually does care if someone catches him skipping but he was already on the edge of being expelled for some fight he got into and Xeno was very adamant about them graduating together, so even though Mr. Tucker saw about 5 seniors skipping as well but only talked to him none of the less he got up and left. Waving to Xeno.

Xeno picked up his magazine to find where he was, but Mr. Tucker decided that his sullen expression meant he wanted a conversation.

“Good Morning Wingfield”

Xeno signs but doesn't look up from his Magazine, and in the most monotone voice, he says, “Morning, Sir.”
“You know, Xeno I don't have a clue why you decided to associate yourself with Snyder, he is-” Mr.Tucker tried to get out but before he could finish his statement Xeno cut in with the same monotone voice and said.

“I don't see why you're so interested in my personal life” Xeno and Stanley were both open about their relationship even if they weren’t their relationship would still be in everyone's mouth in this gossipy town.

“Xeno, when it comes to academics, you are a genius, but in real life, you are just so naive. Soon you will get over this phase, you can rise to your highest potential, you and he will be going to different places for you to go to Univers-.
Xeno, unwilling to sit and listen to his principal's monologue, goes up, “I have to see a teacher now, goodbye.” Not even caring enough to think of the name of a teacher, and walks away from Mr. Tucker.

Stanley walked through the halls slowly, deciding to go back to class. He was already late, so he might as well take his time. On the outside, his face was blank, but inside he was enraged not for today but all the others too.

Mr Tucker, since he had come to the school, had it out for Xeno and me. Not sure if he decided to keep an eye on us because he wanted me to explode, wanted Xeno to stop hanging around bad influences, or just hated the fact we were together, but any little transgression, he would hold it over our heads, primarily Xeno. To force him to participate in some kinda event, most punishment related to an action or to give back to those you have wronged, but Mr. Tucker’s punishments for Xeno were to make the school look good. I would piss off my teacher too much too.

Xeno seemed only mildly irritated by being forced to do anything, and when Stanley asked, he just told him “It would look good on his application'' but he knew that Xeno was only calm on the outside and as each competition he had to participate in an anger increase in him by being pushed around. By the end of their sophomore year, Xeno and Stanley barely had time to hang out frankly broke Stanley a little he felt guilty for the whole thing, Xeno told him he didn't blame him but he could tell after that year Xeno developed a reactance to being told what do in any capacity since Xeno was a pretty smart guy so no one left the need to tell him what to do. Except, of course, Mr Tucker, even after their sophomore year, he still felt the need to tell Xeno what to do. Knowing about Xeno and Stanley’s, at the time new relationship, he remembers one day, unprompted, he gave Xeno pamphlets on Christianity and “God’s plan”.He had never seen Xeno want a guy to die so badly in his life, which made him hate him even more. But though Xeno hated being told what to do, he liked doing what Xeno told him to do, so he decided not to cause trouble.

In the 4th period History, he was with Xeno, and he was already there in the back. Stanley sat next to him, They had a substitute, she just told them to do something good with their time. When he overheard a girl beside them tell her friend she got into a college, pretty sure it was a women's college, but he wasn't paying attention.

“Do you want to skip after lunch? I want to go pick something up,” Xeno said. It was rare that Xeno suggested skipping at all.

“Let's just go now.” Stanley was already ready to leave school at 8am, so getting an excuse to leave was accepted.

“No, I'm going to help some freshmen with this robot they're working on at lunch,” Xeno said,

“You love helping kids in the stem,” Stanley said while putting his head on the desk

“They are 3 years younger than me. I don't think I can call them kids” Xeno retorted.

Maya put a hand on Stanley’s shoulder“I'm getting out of here, coming?”She said, well, picking up her bag.

“Not doing anything better,” I go to get my bag, Maya ruffles Xenos' Hair, and when he looks up to scowl at her, she waves happily at him, walking out the door.

“I'm gone Xe.”

“Meet me at the truck at 12:30,” Xeno tells me sternly.
